If you also suffer from "I need to order a little of everything " like I do, this is not the spot for you. For those with more self control or just deeper pockets, this is a the ideal spot for picking up freshly baked items. Very sweet Yugoslav owner will help you pick out some favorites or items she recommends based on your preference.
We ordered about 7 pastries and the bill came to $100. I usually venture to Portos bakery and am able to get 5x the amount of pastries with a much smaller bill at the end. This is a local bakery with a beautiful selection of pastries and chocolates...so pricing is a bit more on the uppity side. All of the pastries from the Lemon Tart, chocolate dessert, to Apple pie were exceptional. No complaints on taste, I just concur with many other reviews that would appreciate a straightforward pricing list as to avoid the jaw dropping Bill at the end.
This place is a local breakfast/brunch spot located on El Paseo. There is plenty of street and public structure parking lots.
Great selection of pastries! Just pricing is a bit high. With many other bakeries nearby, I may venture elsewhere when my sweet tooth...
Read moreI. Town for the weekend and wanted to walk up and down El Paseo drive. I felt like having a cappuccino and stopped in with my friend. I ordered a cappuccino, a chocolate chip cookie and three pastries to go as they looked amazing. $44 later we left and I was thinking for $44 this cappuccino and cakes better be phenomenal! Well sadly they were not. I ordered a lemon tart, apple tart and raspberry cake. I was told they were all “fresh!” Not likely. We got home and the raspberry cake may have had fresh raspberries at one time but I don’t know when that was as the icing came apart from the dry cake and the filling was bland, jam would have more flavor. The lemon tart was so dry it came apart and I have no idea what was on the inside but it looked disgusting. The slight lemon flavor was detectable but barely. My apologies for my unfriendly tone but this was sinfully bad. The apple tart was like biting into a sugar cube I had to spit it out. I am so disappointed with this experience and lastly the cappuccino was ok. A little sting in the coffee side and not enough foam but it...
Read moreAdorable European cafe run by a European. If you have been to Europe you will know what to expect. We recently went to Italy and it is very reminiscent of the small family cafes there. Mira serves custom coffee drinks that are always beautiful and delicious. Her food is consistent, generous portions, and so good! She even has a gluten free bread option. Her pastry display is beautiful. She typically has at least five desserts that do not contain gluten which I very much appreciate. She also takes custom orders. We did a large order of macarons for my son’s birthday party this year. I am so grateful for such a lovely cafe on El Paseo.
In answer to the reviews concerning cash. She is a small business and the fees that come with credit card purchases take a toll on small businesses when they run them several times throughout the day for small orders. She does greatly appreciate cash for orders under $20, which is why she asks. Never hurts to ask. However she will always take cards and...
