Takumi Sushi — Restaurant in Palmer Township

My go-to locally for everything Japanese. I'm a very regular customer. Overall, I'm pleased and satisfied with my experiences. I do recommend it. This is not Tokyo, and this is not New York City. It's not Nobu. But for a relatively small-town sushi joint, it is excellent. Nancy works the phones there, and she is highly competent. If you have a problem, talk to Nancy. I wish the menu were more extensive, adventurous, and exotic. But I'm sure a part of the reason for that is again because we are in a reasonably small town. You can request that they bring in pretty much anything you want as a special order just for you. So be mindful of that. If you have a favorite that's not there, let them know. They will take care of it for you. Along with this review, I have just uploaded their full menu. It is accurate as of December 7th, 2022. They also have daily specials posted on the board when you come in. I can’t say enough good things about my experience here yesterday evening. I went with my parents to celebrate my 46th birthday and the first surprise was when my sister and niece came in and celebrated with us. Awesome surprise right there.

Next, the food was amazing. The tuna avocado hand rolls and the chicken fried rice I got, out of this world. The tuna was very fresh tasting as was the avocado. Chicken fried rice was a hefty serving and cooked perfectly. The chicken was just right. I am looking forward to the leftovers today!

The gifts from my family were also amazing.

Last, but definitely not least, was when the waiters and waitresses came out with a dessert with a candle in it and everyone was in the restaurant was clapping to the birthday music. This was not even something my family had asked for, which makes it even more special to me! They could see (I assume) that we were celebrating my birthday. I’ve been ordering from this place for more than 2 years and have always had a great experience. The sushi quality had always been consistent until recently. I just received my order for lunch and immediately noticed that the rice in the rolls are now considerably thicker than before, also I noticed that the avocados in it are already browned - so you can tell those were not fresh. On top of that (pictures attached) some of the tuna are no longer fresh, and from the cuts of the salmon and tuna, it looks like they are now putting in bycuts which are random leftover cuts of different parts of the fish. This is blandly evidence of severe cost cutting for a sushi restaurant which is a shame for this place. I ate about 1/3 of the container just to taste the random pieces of sushi and had to stop since I was starting to feel sick.
