This review is for Mr. Tequila Mexican Restaurant. The one I am reviewing is on 639 10th St E, Palmetto, FL 34221. At first glance it looks like any ordinary strip mall restaurant. When you walk inside you are greeted by a colorful display from the tables and chairs. We were seated promptly and our drink orders were taken. I oped for a pitcher of Mich ultra and the better half opted for the homemade sangria. The appetizer order was taken quick as well. We ordered the queso cheese dip cause let's face it, if you cannot make good queso dip then you are close to failure...LOL. The queso was decent, i just wish it had a little more jalapeno kick to it. Anyway, looking over the menu I noticed a nice but strange dish that I have not see at some of the other "mexican" restaurants. It is called Molcajete. That is the actual name of the bowl that the food is served in, Google it. As you see from the photos, it has a cactus on top. It was very tasty. The food was very hot but that is a good thing. The tortillas were good and look to have been made by hand. I went with this dish as it has just about everything. Steak, Chicken, Shrimp, Potatoes, everything but pork. So after downing about 3 glasses of beer I tried it out. Man let me tell you that was some good stuff! It is in a cheese sauce, and I do love cheese, and the way it mixes make it sooooooo good! The cactus on top does not have any strong flavor so do not be put off about it, be adventurous and take a bite, it won't kill ya. The Jalapeno is a bit warm but the bacon wrap was a good touch as I have never seen that before. It is filled with a cheese that I thought tasted a bit like a goat cheese but I could be wrong. The whole meal comes with your normal beans, rice, lettuce, and the like. Just like everywhere else. I finished the whole bowl and was stuffed just like the pig on the bowl. It is the normal animal on the type of bowl in Mexico as well. The fajitas were, well, fajitas, nothing special about it. However, they did have more flavor than some other places. Now for the downside. The beer, while it started off cold it got room temp fast. Something I did not expect it would do with it being in the "Polar Pitcher". After I finished I took a look at the bottom and saw right away why. It was missing the insert that is supposed to be frozen and put in the bottom. Not sure if that was a mistake or not but a warm beer is not good unless it is made to be warm when drank. The Sangria was also light on the alcohol, as in you couldn't tell it had any. So with that, the food is good, the drinks are meh. Would I give it another shot, yes but I would make sure to let them know about my drinks from the previous experience. Check the photo album for this restaurant for menu and what I...

We arrived exactly when they opened, and maybe that was our first mistake. Our waitress (who was actually wonderful, btw) brought out chips and salsa and the chips were cold and stale and I'm assuming from the day before, since they had just opened. My husband ordered the chunky guacamole appetizer as part of his meal... $9.99 for what was the smallest portion of guacamole I've ever seen served as an appetizer, of which tasted of nothing but salt. Now, we both agree that he made the mistake of not asking them to hold the salt (he's on a salt restricted diet due to kidney disease), but this guacamole tasted like a salt lick. There was absolutely no reason for it to have been that salty unless they accidentally dropped the salt shaker in it or something. It was inedible. $10 down the drain, right there. He had also ordered a street taco w/grilled chicken, a la carte, and said it wasn't good. Me, I just had the chicken fajitas, which I also wasn't too thrilled about. Portions were smaller than I'd seen in any other Mexican restaurant. Other than our waitress being great, this was a terrible first time experience for us and so we...

Visiting and a family member that recommend this place. Looked at what I thought was their menu online (come to find they are linked to a website/menu that is not theirs - they don't have one) so when I tired to order they didn't have what we wanted. Also called was on hold for 5 min (could hear them talking the entire time) hung up and tried back for over 15 min and finally decided just to drive there. They picked up finally 1 min away where I had to figure out a new order for my family since their menu wasn't what I found online. Ordered less as I didn't want to give them any more business than minimum. Making me suffer not having what we wanted. Passed another Mexican place a block away. Will make sure to try that one next time I am in down. Isn't worth over priced food for bad service. Waited over 25 min from call in and nothing. Asked for manager that informed me the order was not put in (guess a spiteful employee mad I complained of the delay in answering phone) manager actually cared and placed the order. Took me well over an hour to receive food from when we called in initially. How this place stays open...

I'd give this place 5 stars, but for its location ( a strip mall). The interior is wonderfully decorated with vibrant colors and new tables/ booths. They had a fun mariachi band, & since it was my Birthday; they played their version of "Happy Birthday ". But, it's the food that stole the show! My oldest ordered a chicken / rice dish (Pollo Azado...I believe) ,that looked plain...but tasted amazing! My youngest ordered a fajita ("Del Mar") plate that was just packed with shrimp and crab...so good! My wife kept it simple with a classic taco salad ( crust was flakey, great) and I had something called a "Molcajete". This came in a stone bowl and had shrimp, steak ,chicken, cactus and a smokin' hot ,bacon wrapped jalepeno on top. It came with a plate of beans, rice and typical Mexican sides ,plus tortillas. The Molcajete was exceptional!! I mean, seriously good. I didn't want to stop eating it! But, it was a lot of food! Look...ignore how it looks outside and go on in!! If you like Mexican food and want a fun, clean environment with great service and crazy good food....this is it!

What a nice surprise to find this place! My Mom and I Googled “Mexican Restaurant near me” and this popped up. The decor is fun and festive when you enter and lively music is playing. They have lots of booths to sit in and large tables if you have a big group. Isabel was our server and was helpful to us first timers in the menu selections and even let me practice some of my Spanish I’ve been learning. The salsa was fresh and had cilantro which I love. Silky white cheese dip and a side of salsa verde (green based) to dabble our chips in. We both had the burrito lunch special that came with rice and beans and guacamole, lettuce and tomatoes and sour cream. Great experience and will be returning soon.
