Hmmm where to start? This place was a sports bar/restaurant type place that smelled of stale beer. It has potential...It was fairly nice. The food was very tasty but very expensive for what you got. Normally I would give it a four star just because of the smell and me having to wipe the crumbs off of my seat before sitting down. I always run off the premise that if they can't take care of basic cleaning where customers can see like tables and restrooms, what happens in the kitchen!?? Anyway I dinged them an extra star because of them not being sufficiently accommodative to people with food restrictions. I'm a brittle diabetic that doesn't respond to medications and cannot eat sugar or carbs and have to eat a very low carb diet. Even if it was a personal weight loss diet like keto/carnivore choice, it shouldn't matter. A good restaurant will allow me to just order hamburger patties, eggs or bacon a' la carte. Here they insisted on me ordering the hamburger meal and wanted to charge over $6 for an extra patty. I would've ordered two patties even at that price if i could have. I went ahead and ordered just the bacon cheeseburger without the bun and at least let me substitute the fries for a few asparagus. The meal came and I didn't get any bacon on my bacon cheeseburger. The patty was good but nowhere near a $6 patty. We also ordered garlic parmesan wings. They were very good and premium size wings. The sauce was delicious but I'm afraid suspiciously sweet. So in a nut shell. Overpriced, underwhelmed, and left hungry with over a $65 bill for two people (not including tips or any alcoholic drinks). I would suggest to management that they take a look at their operation and tighten up on disinfecting and bussing protocols, as well as, taking a look at offering some low carb meals or a' la carte menu choices that would help the over 50% of the us population who have diabetes, pre-diabetes and other Metabolic health issues. This is OVER half of your customer base! We shouldn't have to pay for buns, bread, fries etc when we aren't eating them. You aren't losing any money AND might actually get repeat business if you treat your patrons honestly. Yes I know loading up your food with sugar makes it taste wonderful and bulked up meals with cheap carbs helps your bottom line, But people are starting to wisen up and that old shtick is fading away. You can either be a leader or another empty "for-lease" building in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām only adding this actual review since the owner replied and itās only fair to share what went wrong in my view.
First and foremost, Iāve been to Funckās many times over the years. This review is not indicative of every visit Iāve ever had, but itās a review of several of our most recent visits.
I rated the food and service two stars as the last two times we have been in, the food, while presented beautifully, feels like it was prepared to take a picture of, not to eat. A perfect example of this is your Mexican Street Corn bowl and your special teriyaki Salmon bowl on the menu recently. Both list rice as the base, but came served with fried rice, a rather glaring omission, especially for guests who may be allergic to or dislike eggs. Due to the herbs the fried rice was fried with, the eggs in both of these bowls appeared green. While the taste was fine, it was unexpected, and the color was unappealing. Similarly, the salmon bowl was nearly impossible to actually eat given its construction. One solid block of salmon, full lengthwise cut cucumbers, and a shallow bowl equals a bunch of fried rice all over the table as you try to mix the bowl into a somewhat cohesive dish. Our appetizer of Emilyās Fries was also served without ranch, and the missing dressing seemed to confuse the server when we asked for a side of ranch for our fries.
The service was rated low as our server seemed either oblivious to or just disengaged to our dining experience. For example, when ordering sweet tea, the server brought unsweetened tea to the table. I told them this was ok and I would just use Splenda, but they brought me another glass they claimed was āsweet teaā this time, tea that was clearly fermenting. This āsweet teaā I told her had a kombucha/fermented/alcohol undertones, which they did not seem to react to other than an āohā. During the same meal, they included some items as happy hour prices but not others until asked about it.
Again, this review hasnāt always been my experience at Funckās. I am hopeful that in the future that it will return to the consistent high quality, simple and unpretentious comfort food they were...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf it weren't for the cool decor and funky mismatched tables and chairs, the cool lights and the ample parking I would probably give it 0 stars if I could. The bang bang shrimp had a decent flavorful sauce but were the size of barbie dolls pinky. Like no kidding or exaggeration. TINY....and mostly breading....not sure there was even shrimp in there. The waitress we had was HORRIBLE!!! Believe her name was Kristen......she clearly had a boyfriend or husband seated by himself 2 booths away. She stood talking to him for the longest time. Literally 2 booths away and looking at me while I slurped up the very last of my soda and placed the glass on the edge of the table to signify it's time for a refill......looked right at the glass and continued talking to said gentlemen. FIANLLY came to the table to get our cups for a refill.
Now.....mind you, were seated where we had a straight shot view into the kitchen and could see plated food ready to roll out. Several plates on the shelf at any giving time and other wait staff would come and grab plates and walk away with them.....but 2 lonely plates remained.....just sitting there. My dinner guest and I joked that it was probably our food. The longer those 2 plates sat there I looked around and realized the man 2 booths down was no longer sitting the...... and Kristen was nowhere to be found!!!!!! Those 2 plates remained under the heat lamps for at least 10 minutes!!! No lie!!! Finally I see our waitress go the kitchen window and pull those 2 plates off and walk towards us. YEP....our food. Sat in that window for 10 minutes.....most likely so Kristen could walk her man to his car and say goodbye. Listen Kristen, when you are at work........work! Don't get mad when your tip was $2. You're lucky you got that.
Now the food......got the french onion burger on brioche. The roll was probably the only good part. The fries would have been good of they weren't cold....but you can't really f up frozen French fries. The burger had absolutely no flavor. Like none!!! My dinner companion had a brisket melt. He said it smelled like fish. How? Why? I will not be back. Would...
