Short summary: Old is gold, WOW. I first heard about this restaurant years ago, but it wasn't until a few months back that I received another enthusiastic recommendation. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try. I went in expecting to rate it 4.5/5, but now I wish I could give them 100. This is truly one of the hidden gems in the Chicago area. It might be the best lamb I've ever had in Illinois, and it's the only place I know of in Chicago that serves lamb neck. The lamb melts like nothing you've ever seen before. The rice, perfectly cooked and mixed with nuts and raisins, was also exceptional. The portions are generous, the people are welcoming, and the prices are reasonable. This is undoubtedly one of the best authentic dining experiences I've had in my entire life. Such food makes most other restaurants seem like fast food joints. I just hope they expand their seating area to accommodate more people, which would make them even more popular. The pictures and words don't do this place justice. We will be back again!

Walking into this place feels like stepping back in time to a traditional family kitchen, where food is prepared with care, generosity, and authenticity. The atmosphere is simple, unpretentious, and focused on what really matters: great food served in abundance. The platters are massive, designed for sharing, and showcase classic Middle Eastern hospitality. Fluffy basmati rice is paired with tender, slow-cooked meats that fall off the bone, rich with spices and flavor. The creamy sauces add depth, while the fresh salad and tangy dips balance everything perfectly. There’s no rush here—this is the kind of food you sit with, enjoy with family and friends, and remember long after. The old-school setting gives it a charm that modern spots often lack. It’s hearty, soulful, and incredibly satisfying. If you’re looking for authentic, traditional flavors and generous portions in a down-to-earth setting, this is the spot. Truly a hidden gem for anyone who appreciates Middle Eastern comfort food done right.

Stopped by earlier this afternoon because me and my family had been craving some Middle Eastern style lamb and we were able to get some really great options here. This restaurant has a rotating selection and therefore doesn't have an established menu yet but the young woman at the register was really helpful and was happy to go through everything they offered and answer any questions we had. We ended up getting an order of Lamb Ouzi served on a bed of rice (left) & Lamb Neck that's stuffed with rice (right) Both were really tender and delicious! The servings were generous. They were also really kind & gave us a complimentary shawarma wrap for us to try which was really good! Especially with the white sauce they had which I believe was tzatziki sauce and another red chunky sauce that had tomatoes in it. Definitely planning on going back.

Recently, I had an event that I needed food for, and after hearing so many great recommendations, I decided to reach out to Old School and I was not disappointed! The food was served in such a professional manner, and beyond that, it tasted absolutely amazing.

From the rice to the chicken, the duck, and the laban every single item on their menu is there for a reason. Everything is prepared with care and bursting with flavor. The food from Old School is truly fundamental for every occasion whether it’s Thanksgiving, Eid, a normal family dinner, Ramadan, or any holiday or event, you can always count on Old School to deliver.

When I set out the food for my event, I couldn’t help but notice how many people came up to me to compliment its rich flavor and specifically ask for the restaurant’s name. It was clear that everyone loved it just as much as I did.

Even more impressive than the food are the people behind it. The owner and his son are truly wonderful individuals, kind, respectful, and the perfect example of what every business should strive to be.

I’m so proud I chose Old School for my event, and I cannot wait to order...
