Of the myriad local small mom & pop businesses to have struggled during the pandemic and restrictive lockdowns, Malaga Cove Ranch Market expanded. Why?
Malaga Cove: The market is located in the heart of the nationally recognized Malaga Cove Plaza Historic District. Think French Riviera architecture meets 1920s California ranch. Perched above the breathtaking Malaga Cove, it is easy to see why California settlers decided to lay roots here. When I’m here, I find this cove an escape from the deafening noise & the drifting current of SoCal. To state simply, I feel like I’m on vacation and can find rest.
Ranch: The cowboys who settled here prided themselves on rugged individualism, self-reliance, and sustainability. These values are the threads that hold this business together. My favorite is their Big Ranch Breakfast Burrito - 2 organic eggs, bacon, avocado, potatoes, salsa, and melted American cheese. These days nearly everything is fresh, local and organic. However, real handmade food from scratch with the ambiance to match usually comes at expensive prices and crowds of social media influencers taking selfies. Not here. At the Ranch Market, they simply serve fresh food, simply.
Market: SoCal lacks many natural resources like water. However, the true wealth of SoCal and this ranch market are not the mom and pop who own and operate this place. The true gold of California is the small local community that supports this ranch market every single day. Whether it’s Bill, the retired Marine that road his speed bike to have his daily cup of Joe with a long time friend. Or Megan, the active mom who juggles a stroller in 1 hand and the customer favorite golden retriever in the other.
These days, the majority of small businesses last less than 4 years, and probably half that time given California’s heavy handed business practices. The Malaga Cove Ranch Market has stood the test of time for decades. And for years to come, this local Californian will continue to support Malaga Cove...

Read moreDue to my work back in 2010-2013 I used to frequent Palos Verdes almost on a daily basis. Anytime during the day or evening I would find myself making sure I took a break and ate something delicious at or took to go from the Malaga Cove Ranch Market. Moved far out of the area, but yesterday Sunday I stopped by for old times sake to check on my fave gem on the Peninsula. The owner lit up with his warm smile and greeted my friend and I. His wife and occasionally his daughters still help out at their market. My friend and I had two fabulous deli sandwiches and two good cups of java. So glad to be back for a visit and especially seeing that this wonderful family business is thriving. Place was packed with young families, teenagers and elderly couples munching along and enjoying the special cozy character this sweet place delivers. Even if something happened and wouldn't be able to come back for a decade I know that nothing will have changed in this market and that's a...
