Stepping back into Gene's after a long hiatus, we were greeted by a refreshing change. The place was buzzing under the new management, and the air was filled with anticipation. A brand new menu awaited us, boasting daily specials that promised culinary adventure. The revamped Gene's offered the choice of soaking in the sun outdoors or enjoying the lively atmosphere indoors at the bar. And guess what? They now serve beer, a delightful addition that was missing in the old days. However, remember to leave your outside drinks at home due to the liquor license rules. I decided to dive into the Mini Gene's Special, a tantalizing basket featuring Grouper, Fried Oysters, Fried Shrimp, and two delectable sides. The wife, on the other hand, opted for the Fried Mullet. The catch of the day included fresh Mullet and Soft shell Crab, adding to the plethora of choices. Gene's has truly transformed, offering a myriad of options to its patrons. It's safe to say that Gene's legacy is thriving under the new management. The excitement is...
Read moreI hate leaving less than stellar reviews. I had on three separate occasions ordered via online food from Genes. This has been my only experience with them is ordering online. I enjoy the fried oyster basket with cheese grits. Today I talked it up to my coworkers and they decided to order with me from my account. They gave me the money and I ordered. Not only did the drive not even inform me the order was a no go "which is not on Genes, but on the online service" when I called Genes to find out what is going on with my order, they went on to tell me that they never took online orders and is cash only. I know this is not true because this is literally the only way I have ever eaten food from this place. I give the food from my past experience easily a 4.5 but my first experience with customer service a 1 or 2 star. Now I am out of $55 until it clears my account in...
Read moreWe went to Genes today on a recommendation from a local resident. It’s a low key, charming little place whose staff were extremely helpful. We were served at the counter by Walt. He was so friendly, so helpful and patient. We asked a lot of questions and he couldn’t be nicer. We had clam chowder which was delicious. Gumbo, which was tasty, except the sausage which seemed more like the consistency of baloney…the oysters which were baked and loaded were really good, a first for us. The soft shelled crab, also a first, were a bit salty and very weird. I did not enjoy them even though I’m a huge crab fan. There’s more shell than crab. The breading was light but it just seemed like eating bones. Never again. The cheese grits were not very cheesy. The best thing was the clam chowder and the experience. A...
