Mama Ann Restaurant — Restaurant in Panama City

I was looking forward to trying Mama Ann Restaurant, as it’s exciting to see a new Jamaican restaurant open in Panama City—a city that could really benefit from more cultural dining options. Unfortunately, my first attempt to visit left me disappointed.

I arrived around 8:20 AM on a Friday morning, well within their posted business hours (opening at 7 AM according to both the signage on the door and their Google profile). Despite this, the doors were locked. The neon “open” sign was on, which added to the confusion. I called the number listed online and reached someone who sounded unprepared and unsure, eventually telling me they might open around 10 AM instead.

While I appreciate the potential this restaurant brings to the local food scene, the lack of reliability and poor communication during posted hours is a concern. I hope they are able to establish more consistent operations in the future, but for now, I’m...

I would love to give them 5 stars but I can’t. I’ve been eyeing this spot for months and I finally gave them a shot. With no one in the restaurant but me, I still have to wait a good while for my food is very discouraging! The food overall is delicious. The oxtails are tender and tasty and I had the curry chicken that’s equally good. My only other hangup is the sides…they are not consistent (overcooked, undercooked) the white rice, when I ordered them, were always undercooked…hard! And other sides that I prefer are never available (was told at noon that collards were not ready or mashed potatoes were not ready). But I’m not gonna give up on this place because I see potential. Would still definitely recommend...

Conveniently located in the heart of Panama City, this cozy little spot has a great menu with very good, competitive prices. Today I had the collard greens and a beef patty and boy was it delicious. They are made from scratch fresh beef patties not prepackaged frozen and the collards were simply to die for with red bell peppers and carrots subtly flavored with butter, cooked tender and seasoned to perfection all for only 6 bucks!!!
