DINERS BEWARE Simply Awful! This has got to be the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever dined at. We should have gone with our gut instincts and left after we tried the complimentary spaghetti sauce they were passing off as salsa upon greeting us. We had joked about it but thought, "It's Mexican food, it doesn't get much easier that that -who could mess it up"...
Well, like I said, we should have just left then. I ordered a spread of enchiladas and my wife got a burrito. The food came out pretty quick and correct to the menu description, but what the menu didn't say is that there wouldn't be any flavor or substance to the food. The taco meat was greasy and salty, the chicken was very watery and without flavor, the cheese seemed "gritty" like a sandy cheese like substance, and the re-fried beans were soupy and flavorless. I am sure all of the fillings for the enchiladas are cooked hours in advance and kept in a steam well. The beans are soupy and bland because they began to dry out in the steam well and someone added a cup of water to it (multiple times) to keep hydrated. The red sauce that was over the top of my entree was also lacking any flavor or depth as well.
After our "food like substances" were dropped off at our table the server was no where to be found for drink orders, refills on water or to even ask if we were enjoying our "slop" Because of this servers in ability to touch base with her tables they ended up missing out on additional sales. We would have been interested in a round or two of margaritas and if the food wasn't so awful, perhaps desert as well. Easily another $25-30 on the bill...
Speaking of the bill, they had the audacity to charge $34 for two plates of of bland, over heated, soupy but yet dried out, left over swill.
In summary, this place was was boldly atrocious and I will not...
Read moreIf it weren't for the food being as promised the most authentic Mexican food this far north in Minnesota, I would have given this 0 if I could. My son who is 8 is very picky and he claimed his bean and cheese burrito was the best he ever had. I had the burrito habenero and it was phenomenal. My wife also had a great dish. The problem was unfortunately with the service. We had an older Hispanic lady who unfortunately didn't speak English and it translated to us having a very frustrating evening. The first time we told her we got the wrong burrito for my son, she immediately had a look of panic on her face and took it back to the kitchen where we heard her getting berated and yelled at by what I could only assume was the kitchen staff. She brought him out a second burrito which was the exact same as the original. She wouldn't come back to wait on us at all so we flagged down another waiter and through Google translate, we got it figured out. She brought us out the correct burrito for my son 15 minutes after my wife and I started our food and literally dropped the plate in front of my son and walked off. My wife had a look of pure confusion and didn't understand why she was mad at us. My wife went to grab his plate to see if they got it wrong a 3rd time and she was immediately burned and screamed at the table and now has a really bad burn on her thumb. Of course, the waitress didn't dare show her face for another 20 minutes or so. I finally found her and asked for our check. We immediately paid and left but gave the cooks a thumbs up because as I mentioned before, the food was fantastic. If you go, please be aware of who your server is. If its an older lady who speaks very little English, your going to be in for a very frustrating...
Read moreThe waitress was rude! When we sat down, the waitress threw the basket of chips on our table without saying a word, came back but only asked what we wanted to drink, so we didn't even get a "hello" or "welcome". When she came back to get our order, my friend asked if what she was going to order came with a salad, but the waitress didn't understand the question at all, so she gave up and just ordered it. When we got our food, the waitress didn't even say anything, just dropped them off before going to the booth behind us and talking loudly in a different language to the person. When we were almost done eating, the waitress came back and dropped off the bill and took the plates without saying anything AGAIN. Keep in mind that we were still eating and had food on the plate still. My friend and I then began talking and the waitress came back to have us pay for the bill, so we did and left. I live in the area and I have never gone here before. It's safe to say that this is my first and LAST time that I'm ever going to Vallartas. If I have to warn anyone about this place, it's that little English is understood, customer service is very poor, prices are really high for how little food you get, and in alcoholic beverages such as margaritas, it costs extra to have alcohol in it. Do yourself and your wallet a favor and...
