Incompetent is and understatement for the staff. Firstly, we call when we were ten minutes out and were told that we could get there and get a table. When we got there that wasn’t the case, which was fine and we went ahead and got on the waiting list. We waited about and hour and a half and went inside to ask where we were on their list, we were the fourth person in line with 3 tables empty inside. We asked what the wait time was and we’re told that it would be a long time and that ordering “to go” would be much faster. We were starving at that point so went ahead and ordered “to go”. While we were outside waiting for our food, more tables emptied. Eventually, at around the two hour mark and after tables had been emptied for about 10 minutes, we got a call and we’re told that there was a table ready for us. When we explained to the girl on the phone that we had ordered “to go” but would prefer to dine in if possible, since now they had space available and we were the next ones on the list, she said that we could come in. When we went in another employee stopped us at the entranced and told us “oh sorry they must have kept you on the list but your food is ready”. At this point we were trying to explain while she was telling us how it wasn’t possible for us to dine in even though we were called, there was a table available, and our food was ready, literally that same second. At this point we were starving and frustrated from all of this ridiculousness that we grabbed our food and left. They acted like they did not want to serve us, we were nothing but patient the whole two hours and left feeling kicked out. Once they had already sold us the food, they didn’t care we were customers and didn’t even care about taking care of us; they just wanted us to leave so they could give the table to someone else, even though there was nobody else waiting. It was a really bad experience, and not worth their food. If you are craving their food, I recommend going to the Zen in Lakewood, they are much more organize and their staff is actually competent to deal with a busy Friday night. Super...
Read moreSo we had a fun filled day showing my family from out of town around. So it came to dinner and my wife and I love Zen near our home and in downtown Tacoma. We thought it would be great because the atmosphere is fantastic and the food is amazing. So we get to this Zen location because the one on south Tacoma way is by closed from the 19th to the 24th. Not an issue we like this place so much we’ll go to a different one. Mind you the current time we pulled up to the closed zen was about 07:15 pm. So we travel to the nearest one on Garfield and park and we get here 07:25 ish. There was a person in front of us Rinka was our host and before we could order she tells us that dine in is closed. So we accepted the terms and ordered food. There was people eating all around us when she told us that. I’m a little upset and curious what time the dine in closes so I don’t have to go thru this again. She told me they close dine in 30 mins before close and on Sundays they close early. So I start thinking and realized we placed our order at 07:30 pm. The guy in front of us got to sit down and eat. I just feel like cause there was 4 of us with babies they didn’t want us in the restaurant. We get our food 10 mins later and start the drive back to the hotel and we are talking about how bad that was. It sucks because I love the place and I like to show off this restaurant to my friends and family because of how much I enjoy the place. Now the last thing we can remember is how Rinka and her crew made us feel unwanted and ran us out after they took our money. If you eat at this location call ahead to make sure they can seat you. ORRR go to a different Zen or food establishment. I took photos without putting people’s faces so it looks empty. Photo of the receipt with the timestamp 07:30 pm.
Update: after eating everything Ramen was inedible, tasted like ramen cooked in dishwater. Zen makes dishwater Ramen is our new inside joke. Never...
Read moreI visited Zen Ramen & Sushi Burrito recently, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. This establishment, which once provided exceptional food in a distinctive and hygienic setting, seems to have fallen behind over the past four years and with the addition of two new locations you can tell concentration is divided.
Upon entering, it was evident that cleanliness has become an issue. The ramen broth lacked flavor and was marred by a fatty film along the rim of the dish. The ice maker and self-service drink machine were noticeably neglected, covered in mold, and only partially functional. Additionally, the once-generous YUMYUM sauce has been rationed to mere teaspoons, diminishing the overall dining experience.
A concerning observation was the presence of dark black dust or some organic material around all ceiling vents and on various surfaces. This further raised questions about the overall hygiene standards maintained by the restaurant.
To compound matters, my visit to the Tacoma location was marred by a lack of attentiveness from the counter operator. After waiting for 15 minutes, she informed us belatedly that she couldn't see us, displaying a lack of courtesy. Furthermore, despite this inconvenience, she proceeded to accept three more web and to-go orders without offering any explanation or condolences for the situation.
Regrettably, based on this disappointing experience, I cannot recommend Zen Ramen & Sushi Burrito at its current state. It is my hope that the management takes immediate action to address these cleanliness and customer service issues, ensuring that the restaurant regains its once...
