A friend and I ate it Char Bar on Tuesday early evening, April 23. My friend had the salad with the salmon on it, she had two small bites of lettuce and then a small piece of salmon, and she realized it was kind of chewy and she looked at the rest of the salmon and it was completely raw. So it took a while to find someone to get our waiter so it could be sent back and another piece cooked, and the waiter volunteered to us that they would take it off the bill, the salmon salad. And I thought that was the right thing to do. We waited about 10 -15 minutes I would say, and my friend got her salad with the salmon and it was cooked thoroughly and after the dinner, the waiter brought the checks, and the salmon salad was not taken off the check, and then our waiter came to us, and ignoring the fact that they didn’t take it off the bill he started to tell us that the excuse was that my friend had eaten over half of her salad. Now we were dumbfounded at that remark because she only literally had two small bites of lettuce and a small piece of salmon, like a quarter inch wide and then she discovered it was completely raw. So why this lie was made up that she ate over half her salad which was totally a fabrication, I don’t know why. The restaurant manager never came to our table and apologize that the salmon was raw and the waiter apologized, but I told him he doesn’t need to apologize because it’s not his fault but management has a direct tie to everyone working there and whoever the manager was should’ve come to our table and apologize and that whole salad should’ve been taken off the ticket and comped. It definitely kind of ruined my friends appetite and she did eat a portion of the second salad but oddly enough it looked like they brought back the same salad that raw salmon had been sitting on and just put the cooked or maybe it was the old raw piece that they cooked. I thought that was not the thing to do, Bring back the old salad that had had raw fish sitting on it and the only reason I caught it is because there was kind of a funny divot taken out of the avocado on top and that’s how I noticed it was the same salad. I have liked Char Bar very much in the past, but this was totally the wrong way to make your customers happy and keep them . Not sure if I will go back to Char Bar at the Parkville location, Probably eventually, but it was an extremely disappointing experience and our server telling us the lie that the manager told that my friend had eaten over half the salad, that is unforgivable. My friend was mad and upset and didn’t want to deal with it anymore so we did not ask for the manager after we ate. Extraordinarily disappointing experience at Char Bar/Parkville location. Read moreI have been to the location in Westport and the bbq is always great, I usually order, burnt ends, brisket and sausage. Always order by the pound and I never order sides. I first visited the Parkville location in January and arrived after 9pm and ordered the food and it was amazing and the waiter was awesome and friendly. I have since returned 2 other times. The 2nd time was about 6pm on a Saturday and it was packed so we decided to order take out. Take out took like 30min, not sure why since the food is already there and has been made. In the mean time I went back to ask about the wait time and was given the same answer as the first time of 1.5-2hrs. Yet there was no one else waiting to be seated. The 3rd time was about 20min ago and all the high top table were open, thet seat 4. My wife and I prefer to sit a regular tables. Now keep in mind we were asked what we preferred and we requested a table. Keep in mind that these are large tables that can seat 6 people, maybe more. There were 4-5 tables empty. I knew something was up because after about 60 seconds looking over her IPAD the hostess excused herself a went into the back. She came back with her manager he stated that all they have available were the high top tables. I was just amazed that with open tables they would say that. Could have said that the tables were reserved or something. I was just tired and did not want to argue over something so stupid. Maybe I am wrong or missing something but service should be a top priority for any restaurant. I do not feel that on my 2nd and 3rd visit that service was provided like I have had at other food establishments. So for me I will just visit locations that take customer service seriously l. On a positive note there is a young man that works the take out counter that is as solid as they come when it comes to customer service and is a hard worker from what I experienced. I just wish the rest of the staff would take a cue from this young man. In the end there might be alot of information that I was not privy to, so I reserve the right to be wrong. Yet this was my personal experience with this location. I will visit the Westport location but I doubt I will return to this location. Headed to have a steak at Texas...

I've been to this location a handful of times and will not be revisiting again. My husband and I have come here at off hours with our small dog to sit at a picnic table on the patio and enjoy the outdoors and a meal. When we sat down a few weeks ago, our waiter came to take our drink order and not long after another staff member asked us to move to a smaller table -- mind you, of the 18 or so outdoor tables, at least 12 were unoccupied (4 of which were suitable for larger groups), so it's not like they were busy or had a wait. We kindly declined to move and asked to stay put where we were. Next, the manager came out and said we needed to move to a smaller table so they could keep the larger tables open for big groups (of which they didn't even have any waiting). Instead of making a scene, we left disappointed that Char Bar chose to refuse service to customers that were happily ready to pay for a large family meal because they thought they could fill their pockets with some larger groups that "might" show up. I am absolutely disgusted at the experience we had and shocked that we weren't even given the opportunity to order unless we moved tables (oh and by the way, they never even brought us drinks, so they weren't even planning on serving us unless we moved). What's funny is that we don't usually stay long and they could've let all of the other tables fill up and then ask us to move if we were lingering. But to not even service customers because all they can see is a bottom line is just a poor business model. Their food and service isn't good enough to be a prick about seating, especially when not busy.
