In town for the night and ordered $80+ worth of food, including individual slices of pizza. Someone from the restaurant called immediately with the nastiest attitude to tell me he doesn’t have any of the slices we ordered. Fine, I understand, it’s a Sunday night & you don’t pre-make all the pizzas you might on Fridays or Saturdays. That’s fine, I’ve worked in restaurants, I completely understood. I asked for a minute please so I could ask my family what pie they would like instead, and all I was met with was the rudest attitude telling me that I “better figure out what want because can’t make anything that ordered”. Also absolutely no mention of a refund for the price difference, so I guess I’ll be taking that up with my bank later. I almost wanted to cancel my entire order because of this man’s attitude, which persisted even after I very kindly said “I understand this is not your fault & I still want to give you my business”. Very turned off by extremely poor customer service. I don’t know who was on the phone, but you should definitely consider finding someone else to speak to your customers.
As for the food, we had only one special request - to please cut the sub into thirds instead of halves. This apparently could not be accommodated. The pizza that person over the phone made suuuuch a huge deal over having to make fresh because he didn’t have ANY pre made pies to pull slices from? Barely room temperature….our hotel is 7 minutes from the restaurant. Also, no silverware or napkins or anything when you are delivering to a hotel?? When the order has 2 salads?? Come on….. Food was fine, but all around not a pleasant experience,...
Read moreI almost never leave reviews but I've got to say that the pizza here is really bad. I mean, I didn't expect top tier pizza but when I opened the box of the large plain pie I had ordered to find a massive pool of cheese literally sloshing around the box I knew I was in trouble. Because there's WAY too much cheese, grabbing an intact slice was nearly impossible until it had congealed into a hardened, bulky mass of bread, sauce, and cheese. None-the-less I tried. After a couple bites (during which I fought hard to keep some cheese on otherwise it would be just a wet triangle of bread) I realized that my mouth was burning not from heat but from an unnecessary amount of salt. I assume it's the sauce but I guess it could've been the dough or perhaps some combination of the two. Anyway, I've eaten enough NJ/NY pizza to know that there's a range: the fancy artisanal stuff, bar pies, regular "grab a couple slices" joints, and so on and that they all have their place and should be evaluated differently. But the pizza Annabella's serves is borderline inedible—I guess the only thing that would make it worse would be if the sauce had a lot of sugar in it—which is doesn't, so that's a plus. I suspect they have such high ratings for one of two reasons: 1/They've pumped it up with fake accounts, friends, etc 2/They cater almost exclusively to people traveling for business who are from parts of the country/world where pizza is so abysmal (think gas station pizza) that this stuff seems genuinely good. Either way, for anyone looking to NOT feel ill the morning after eating this pizza,...
Read moreWe were really disappointed by our experience here, mainly due to an unexpected and unreasonable extra charge. We ordered the "Cavatelli and Broccoli" — a dish that, by name, clearly includes cavatelli pasta. However, we were surprised to find a $2 surcharge added to our bill for the cavatelli.
When we asked about it, the server explained that cavatelli costs more than other pastas, which is fine — but nowhere on the menu does it mention an upcharge. More confusingly, the dish is literally called Cavatelli and Broccoli — so why would the featured pasta not be included in the listed price?
The server said we could have avoided the charge by ordering it with penne, which completely defeats the point of ordering a dish named after cavatelli. It felt misleading and left a bad impression. The server even mentioned it to the manager and he said nothing to us.
The food was decent, but it's hard to enjoy a meal when you feel like you're being nickeled-and-dimed. Restaurants should be transparent about pricing — especially when the item in question is in the name of the dish.
We’ve been going to Annabella’s since they opened, but over a $2 unfair upcharge we won’t be...
