Sorry, no photos, but, for the record, the food did look great. Great table service: Carlos was patient, courteous, and efficient. There were 5 of us for a 1:45ish lunch on a Saturday. My brother, trying to limit his Coca Cola consumption, ordered water then immediately asked about the availability of lemonade and if it was homemade. I didn't hear Carlos's response, but my brother was happy with it and asked for a sample. If it's good enough for my bro, I thought, then I'll have a sample, too (even though I really thought I might prefer a beer, of which, there were several to choose, but, alas, I was driving and also wanted to save room for food rather than beer) Carlos took the drink orders for the others and very shortly returned with the samples of lemonade. The lemonade tasted terrific, not too sweet or tangy, just right. We both ordered a glass, which was about 20 ounces or so - no free refills, not that one was necessary.
I had the Spicy Mango Shrimp dish that included sauteed squash & onions along with two sides of choice, I chose coleslaw & French fries. The sauteed shrimp (I forgot to count 'em, but it must've been about 8 medium sized) had some spice heat, but not any other distinctive flavor, so I dipped it in honey mustard dressing and gobbled it up without a problem, same with the too thinly sliced zucchini & yellow squash. The coleslaw was standard with random length shavings of carrots and cabbage, as well as the dressing. The dressing was very slightly sweetened, without any overwhelming seasonings, which is just the way I like it. The order of fries was, as I most often find with non fastfood restaurants, a very generous order. They were 2.5" to 4" length medium cut thickness and fried well, although I now realize that it is probably an option to ask for my fries to spend 30 seconds more cooking since I enjoy more crispiness. My sister-in-law ordered a plate of fried shrimp and catfish; we traded 1 shrimp each and I also wrangled a bite of fish. That shrimp was larger than mine and beautifully battered and fried. The fish may have had a roll in a dry mix of cornmeal-flour and mild seasoning, then fried crisp. I'm sad that I didn't order that fried combo, even though I know I may have felt like garbage after that much fried food - which, even though she didn't finish about 1/2, she told me, a couple of hours later, that she was still quite full feeling. There were two decent size filets of fish and maybe 8 shrimp on that plate; if we'd been thinking clearly, we could have shared that, instead of me ordering the Spicy Mango Shrimp.
In summary, this restaurant, with its clean and modernly finished restroom, walls of sea life mural and mounted fish, comfortable chairs, stone table tops, televisions tuned to closed captioning neutral news network and sports programming, smiling and courteous employees, good-tasting food and lemonade, timely food delivery and service I will...
Read more2025 edit - I will always love the food here and I do think they have the best crawfish in town. That being said, I tried this place again after not eating it for maybe eight months because the prices just didn’t make sense. Again I ordered and the total didn’t match what my total should be according to the menu. Turns out they charge you extra when you pay with the debit, which is not on the menu. Your price on the menu should be the price you pay and if you want to pay cash, I could understand a discount then since they won’t have to pay card fees. Nowhere on the to go menu does it include a to go charge or a charge for paying with a debit card. It’s just bad business. Would be a great way to launder money though.
2024 edit - i’m not sure if they’ve gotten new owners, but the customer service has gone down quite a bit. There is still the nice gentleman that has always worked there and he does a really good job. I’m not sure about everyone else though. First they charge me for extra sides even though I only requested the sides that come with the meal. Then they charged me $1 per pound extra on crawfish as compared to the outside marquee (plus the Togo charge which is fine). I’ve always gotten my son a popcorn shrimp kids meal, and subbed rice for the french fries, but this time just told me I couldn’t have it even when I ordered it. I get it if they want to charge extra that’s fine, but tell me it will be extra. Don’t tell me no. Also, they hung up on me when I tried to order. Also had to prove to them that they didn’t give me butter with my crawfish, even though it’s supposed to come with it. Generally speaking, everyone except for that one gentleman just has a bad attitude now.
I’ve been going to Baytown Seafood in Pasadena for over 10 years now. They know me by name. Food is consistently delicious and my to-go orders are always correct. Family friendly atmosphere with great staff. Best crawfish in town. Also love their grilled specials. Everyone in the family can find something...
Read moreI really love the food here, it’s super delicious and plentiful and reasonably priced, but three things keep me from giving the place five stars.
First, there are multiple TVs tuned to different channels, the sound isn’t muted on any of them, AND they have a radio playing! Who does that?
The second issue is that they have a really small dining room and a lot of wait staff, so they kind of all wind up standing near the front counter talking amongst themselves and staring at the customers. Which is awkward feeling. But it does make it easy to get someone’s attention when you need something.
The third problem is that amongst their plentiful amount of combination platters, they don’t have one with the combination I want (fish, oysters, and crawfish tails), and one of the things I want isn’t available in their create-your-own combination selection.
The last thing that irks me a little is they put out a sign for crawfish season boasting that they have delicious crawfish, but they only display the prices they charge for the potatoes and corn and other extras that go with the crawfish, and give no indication what they charge for the crawfish themselves. Weird.
I know it sounds like I have a lot of negatives to say about this place, but the food being so tasty and affordable really does make it worthwhile...
