I’m 32 years old, and never in my life as a resident in New Jersey, did I think there was such a hidden gem located in the middle of Paterson. The surrounding area is underwhelming, and a bit dangerous looking at certain hours of the night, but don’t let that keep you from going there. In a search to find great pizza constantly, I will occasionally watch Dave Portnoy’s “one bite” pizza reviews. The review was unlike all the others, because after giving a rating of 8.1, he changed his mind at the end of the review and unofficially rated the pizza a 9.1. This intrigued me and I had to try it the following day of the release of the review. On the inside, the place looks virtually unchanged since it’s opening in the 30s. That nostalgia made the experience even better. Everyone treated us nicely, even though I know the staff was overwhelmed because of the volume of people coming in to try the pizza after the one bite review. We decided to also try the fried ravioli first, which were very good, specifically the sauce, which was sweet and flavorful, how I like it. The pizza we ordered was half plain, half pepperoni. It took a long time for the pizza to come out, which only told me that they weren’t just pumping out pizza; they were making the pizza to order, even while they were as busy as they were. When the pizza came out, we were so excited to eat it that myself and my girlfriend burned the roofs of our mouths on the first bite, which taught us an important lesson while eating this pizza: allow the pizza to sit for about 5 minutes, and we promise that first bite will be 100x better, and you will taste every bit of flavor they intended for you to taste. With each slice of pizza down, we enjoyed it more and more. We left absolutely nothing but a few pieces of crust. The crust, by the way, is unlike any you will ever try. It curves upward, and it’s flakey and crispy. The dough is firm and there is no flop. The pizza had barely any grease, so you know the ingredients were high quality. The pepperoni slices were crispy and flavorful. If your favorite kind of pizza is a bar/tavern pie, this is the best pie you will ever have. Even if a bar pie isn’t your favorite type of pizza, this will likely be the best pizza you’ve ever had. It is...
Read moreYou need to call for reservations, They open at 4:30pm on Sat. Earliest you can call is 4pm. You will get a seat, plenty of seating- they probably want to make sure enough servers/cooks. Get the sausage and broccoli Rabe. Antipasto- they use the good Parmigian sharp cheese. Calamari- tender not breaded- awesome. We parked in front - saw sign for parking in back. Wonderful third generation ❤️ restaurant- food just same like my partner members from a child. Patterson really needs help with pride of neighborhood -we drove around neighborhood and garbage was so overwhelming-on sidewalks, in streets, around all the fences, I was taking pictures to show family how much care was needed. *The town looks like they just don't care anymore. Shameful because you can see where some homes have really put Love and time into keeping house clean from garbage and have been able to maintain or upgrade. Then you see houses boarded with garbage bags all around them and broken windows with garbage coming out. The politicians and townhealth department or garbage removal department is not helping to keep neighborhoods clean. State needs to come in and take over -...
Read moreHave tried 3 times to try the pizza here, all ended in disappointment. They take vacations often during the summer so recommend checking their Facebook page for up to date schedule. ALWAYS call first, hours posted is when the dining room opens but they will answer the phone to take orders earlier. Reservations are currently two weeks lead time. Why I mention this for take out pizza? Priority are the dine in customers, they are limited in how many pies they can make so take out orders are limited by the number of reservations. I placed an order when they opened at 4:30 was told I needed to wait till 8:30 to pick up. They also stopped accepting take out pizza orders at 6:30. Is this pizza worth a four hour wait? Absolutely. The crust is something special, pizza crust is usually crispy or chewy but they are able to get it to be both, almost like a fresh bagel. If you live in the area it is worth it to try the pizza at least once...
