CC Peppers is an excellent shop for subs, wings, and more! The kitchen staff is extremely efficient. All of our food was ready at the same time and it was all hot. We ordered two hot subs, wings, and french fries. I was very impressed at the way all of the items were hot and fresh. Typically, my experience is that inevitably some of the items are sitting while the other items are being made. This was not the case with CC Peppers.
There are four reasons why I am giving four stars instead of five.
While the food is excellent, the restaurant was not as clean I I would like. It looks as though it needs a thorough scrubbing. As a side note, one of the toilets was leaking water all over the floor in the men's room. It appeared as though it had been leaking for quite a while because there was a trash bag covering it. Plumbing fixtures should be repaired and maintained accordingly for customer convenience.
While I understand the importance of conserving paper products, there were multiple signs posted through the restaurant, indicating "DO NOT WASTE". I thought this was a bit tacky, especially when handwritten on a piece of cardboard.
The restaurant offers a soda fountain with a syrup based tea. However, most sub shops offer both sweetened and unsweetened fresh brewed tea. This would be a nice touch for those not interested in drinking soda or syrup based tea.
Finally, the most bizarre thing of all was that call-in orders are subjected to a $1.50 charge. Yes...you pay $1.50 because you call in your order as opposed to ordering in person. I inquired as to why there was a $1.50 charge and I was told it is because a group of people will order lunch as one large order over the phone and then upon arrival, the will request the order be split and paid for with different forms of payment. I was told that this slows down the check-out process during...
Read moreOk, now if your from State College or did the Penn State thing then you know that CC Peppers has been a landmark and tradition for decades. There's something different going on now though. Ownership has changed numerous times over the years and everything seemed to remain consistent. Something is beyond repair now. The food is still passable and you'll recognize a familiar taste but the atmosphere is sub par at best. It can be dirty and if you're in a good mood when you get there that will change by the time you leave (good food or not). Be prepared to be yelled at, and I mean yelled at, for disobeying their overbearing rules. No mask (muzzle), staff is yelling at your party from the food prep area as you enter. This all in front of other customers sheepishly standing in line as they too where belittled. Then comes the nasty notes on the trash cans instructing you not to use one for wet trash! It's TRASH!! There's also a rude sign instructing you to not to waste their napkins! Well, if it's an issue, quit yelling at customers long enough to put a napkin in each bag with the food! Burger King can figure that out.
It's just as shame that the current ownership has such a bad attitude. If it's too stressful to own and manage a business then get out of there and find someone else to resurrect the business that was, at one time, a cornerstone of Penn State eateries that you have...
Read moreThe customer service was horrible. I felt like I was being barked at. As a first time customer, I didn't know what their slang meant and I felt their entire organizational process was hectic and not smooth.
Before I even got my food, I made the decision that no matter how good the food was, I wouldn't be returning.
I rate the food maybe a 5/10 at best. Seriously, it tasted like the quality of a Mcdouble that got made a half hour ago. The fries weren't bad, but I'm not eating food based on fries. After spending $8 on food, I had to drive across the road to Mcdonalds so I could actually get full.
I honestly have no idea how these guys are in business. I guess looking at their peak business hours should tell it all. They don't get a ton of business. The building and logo looks run down.
If these guys are the best cheesesteak in town, maybe I should open up my own shop because if this is what State College considers good, I'd...
