Visited on a late Saturday afternoon. The place was packed! We had intended on eating there, either in our car or at the picnic tables provided but it was waaay too busy so we used the "to-go" window and a very, very patient young lady cheerfully took our order. She apologized at the time of order that it might take a while but within minutes she came to our car with our drinks. Several more minutes later, she arrived with our hot dogs. Sure, it took longer to get our food than one might think when ordering only hot dogs but they were packed with customers and they have a lot more than just hot dogs on their menu. We drove off and ate our food at the banks of Maple Lake in downtown Paw Paw at clean picnic tables provided by the city parks department. Downtown Paw Paw is just minutes away from Red's Root Beer so our hot dogs were still hot and delicious. The root beer was cold and creamy. This visit was for a late lunch/pre-dinner snack. I look forward to enjoying a fuller meal there sometime in the near future. Olive burgers on the menu caught my eye.

This was my first visit to Red's, but it certainly won't be my last! I loved everything about this place! The service was amazing, the staff was ridiculously friendly and the food was just phenomenal. I got the Chicago dog, and though $4.99 sounds pricey, it was worth every penny. I've never had a better weiner. The toppings were aplenty (whole slices of tomato! Sliced pickle! Sport peppers! And whatever other magical things they put on there, all on a poppyseed bun!), and, for drive in fast food, the presentation was out of this world. My husband got the bacon cheeseburger, and boy did that thing look tasty. The fries (which I of course lovingly stole several of) were cooked to a delicious crispy golden brown. The coleslaw was really nothing special, but still very good. But it was the root beer that made the meal... that heavenly sweet sweet nectar. Don't forget to order a gallon (or five) to take home! I can't wait to visit Red's again!! I may live 30 minutes away, but this place is absolutely worth the drive.

Great food and a amazing environment! While my wife , stepson and I enjoyed our meal it was so amazing to have the owner come around and thank every single vehicle for stopping in even though they were so busy. Also gave me a great faith restoration in humanity as I watched the waitress with two extra ice cream cones trying to figure out what to do with them and the owner took them from her and after asking "mom and dad" gave them to two little kids, seated down the table from those kids were a couple more children and without skipping a beat he had more ice cream coming out for them.... truly amazing what a wonderful person I think I should make this a once-a-week food stop for the whole summer. It was also really cool to see all of his employees in their prom dresses there to take their picture with him he must be a very special person.

08/18/25 I wouldnt go here anymore I have given them one final try after a couple years and they had only gotten worse first off a generic Italian beef that see like any American family made it at home buying the tubes of beef and getting cheap rolls that tasted like they are the cheapest ones you can get is what this beef is and taste like also their cheese sticks taste like they came from the frozen section at a grocery store and they charge me for a beef sandwich which was tiny and mind you generic one and 5 store bought cheese sticks like are $25 dollars which is extremely insane a while ago when I got the meal and replaced it with cheese sticks it was around $14 something and it’s not like this is a real italian beaf it’s store bought tubes you make at home for your family and I’m not here to shame you but you cannot charge premium prices for this kinda food and most people in Michigan don’t know what a genuine Italian beaf is and if anyone wants to know go to papa Freddy’s or Freddy’s and find out I’m telling you I’m born and raised in Chicago I know what great food is and when someone is ripping people off because they are getting a very big profit from the regular basically Walmart bought tubes were the meat doesn’t go with or taste good with the bun it’s in just at least go to Freddy’s website or on google and look up their Italian beaf you can even see the difference in quality and price because Freddy’s is made by scratch and it’s messed up most Italian eateries wouldn’t charge that much for 2 items and would never charge almost 7 dollars for five cheese sticks at Freddy’s you get a sack, I know you guys need to make money but this ain’t the way to do it my generic beaf had very little meat the roll was very gross you guys need to use actual Italian bread and cut it then when somebody says dunk it you soak the entire sandwich in its original cooking juices but instead gave me a cup of French dip juice those are two different nationality’s I know you’re getting a hype there because Michigan people never tasted real food and are used to the overpriced garbage Michigan restaurants give them but even going next stop to Indiana you’ll find some good Italian places really ones but I’m telling you take the time to make the trip to Chicago you wont regret it even typical nation wide restaurants are made better there for example I’ve had Texas Roadhouse here in Michigan and in Chicago and Chicago is way better in every way because they actually care about the food they send out and care about their reputation just do it stop buying Michigan junk food and just go to Illinois or take a mint vacation there you’ll see what I meant and you’ll start wondering why you ever bought food from these places in Michigan I’m not trying to humiliate places like reds but this is extremely overpriced store bought low grade low quality you can make at home in 30mintype food your selling for premium prices it’s not fair and not right to the customers here and they don’t know any better and that tubed store frozen section beaf the entirety of my 25 dollar small beaf five cheese sticks meal was the actual worst meal I had it was disgusting and I had too vomit afterwords it was that bad especially the bread I hate and can’t stand those generic Italian bread tube with low grade rolls which is why I know what it is and if you want a good hotdog or burger motz sticks George’s in Chicago is good pretty much all places are in Illinois are they legit have the Vienna beef facility near these shop and show you how its made there Its so sad no one here in Michigan knows what real food is and also sad what reds did because I had hoped they gotten better after all this time but they got worse with quality portions prices just everything while charging premium its just depressing enough to make me move back to Illinois because I can’t seem to find any honest shops or restaurants here in Michigan I hope you all at least look into what I said about Illinois and Freddy’s at least look at their pictures you’ll see the difference Take...

  • update Red himself called me and is going to get to the bottom of what happened. He is giving us a compped meal too. He apologized and we talked. Very upstanding of him. ** My family and I used to be a regular here and now I will never go back. I tipped well, was polite to staff and came in frequently whether dining at the tables, in car service or drive thru. My last experience was horrible. The food was mediocre for the price and then to top the cake...we were singled out by a waitress whom did not have it together. Management handled what the waitress perceived as a family recording her (weird and not accurate) while we were rarely on our phones even, very very poorly. They did not approach us or anything just simply did not come back to take our dessert order and then called the police for a drive thru. It was the most insulting and bizarre experience I have EVER had. Mind you...I would never even think about taking someone's picture or recording them without asking. I had my child with me. Who does that? I tried to contact the owner after the fact and never heard back. I would never recommend anyone go there... they apparently have staff whom need mental assistance and accuse families of...

We just love this place. The homemade root beer is the star of the show without question. Sweet, but not too sweet, carbonated but not too carbonated, it has a good, earthy and sweet blend of flavors. And when served in a frosted mug, it bring back memories of the good old days. The waitresses work hard in all weather and they earn every tip. Red himself makes frequent appearances and he still seems to enjoy the whole thing chatting it up with customers. They've got good food too! The hot dogs dinner franks have a good meat to bun/topping ratio. Burgers are juicy and creatively topped. There a even a few items if you don't want to eat your meal between two bun halves. I like the shrimp basket. I wish they would rethink the coleslaw recipe. It's way too bland an ordinary. I've been told it's fresh, but it doesn't taste that way. Adding a little salt seems to improve the flavor a little. The sides are delicious, fried mushrooms and other veggies are a tasty alternative to the crinkle cut fries. The onion rings and onion chips are outstanding! Marzette's ranch dressing is a creamy and delicious way to off any of...
