Bottom Line: BE WARNED -- Slow service and overpriced, low quality food that is outdone by restaurants within walking distance, or by a quick trip to the grocery store. Every single five star review here can be safely ignored. Make SURE to read the reviews by native Chicagoans. They are understandably not as forgiving as Paw Paw natives, because this business claims to SPECIALIZE in Chicago style food, and they do not. Read on.
FOOD: For most of the menu items, you are better off getting pre-cooked frozen products from the grocery store and heating it up yourself. It will cost half as much, and taste better, because food manufacturers actually do quality control on their products, and they don't let teenagers add the toppings. You also won't waste gas driving to this place just to find out that everything is a cheap imitation of real food made by professionals. For
The hotdogs were fine on our first visit, but they were nothing to write home about. The toppings, and how they were prepared and added to the dogs, leave a lot to be desired. Besides, Red's Rootbeer does it better for the same price-range down the street, with sides, a drink, and a drive-in atmosphere included. The value is at Red's, not here.
On our second visit, we got a sandwich and a pizza. The $10 "chicken parmesan sandwich" that we ordered was a frozen chicken patty on a hamburger bun covered in cheap marinara sauce. It comes with no sides and barely feeds a single adult. Shopping in the right places, you can make six of these at home for about the same amount of money, with no cooking experience.
The $20 12" thin crust BBQ chicken bacon "specialty pizza" that I received was absolutely drenched in BBQ sauce, and completely covered in poorly distributed clumps of italian seasoning by who I can only assume was a psychopath. Chicken and bacon, which was what made this a "specialty pizza" in the first place, was largely absent. I could spot maybe 5 pieces of chicken on the entire pizza. I compared it to a 12", $7.50 frozen pizza that I had at home, and the differences were minor. In fact, the frozen pizza had more chicken on it, and other ingredients like red onion and cilantro that balanced it out well.
Why did I not just make the frozen pizza? I wish I had. I thought that the 5 star reviews had some merit. They did not. Either the reviews are fake, or the people who eat here have never left Paw Paw. It is definitively not an authentic Chicago style food joint, despite its claims that it "specializes" in it. This kind of dishonesty isn't fair and is reflected in the lower scored reviews.
SERVICE/ATMOSPHERE: The cashier was friendly enough. Hell, they were probably the best part of the experience. They attempted to keep the kitchen staff (a single high school kid) off of their phones, but ultimately the food was just barely passable, and still took 35 minutes to come out. The atmosphere takes a back seat here, because there are only four tables or booths to dine at, but it still made me smile to see the Adam Sandler references on the walls. These are the only factors that rescue this review from being 1-stars across the board.
CONCLUSION: I gave this place a second chance today in good faith, but I must actively recommend against it. You can get a dinner for two, with sides and enough left over to take home, cooked by an actual adult with professional experience, for only about $10 more than my "dinner" was tonight. Again, better alternatives can be found within 500 feet. This place should have closed instead of Amore pizza. Never...
Read moreAbout to rate them as soon as I get my deep dish and beef I’ll give an honest assessment of the business and being that I’m from Chicago I can give a good perspective on the market for my followers being that I’m a s.p.c Will update soon everyone.
UPDATE! My review of this restaurant to help customers avoid unnecessary losses, all the other reviews must be fake or they have never eaten Chicago food before and I’m a Chicago born person, I am going to be completely honest I criticized food to help businesses and customers a like first I asked before ordering is everything made by scratch homemade he said yes but that’s definitely a no, my Italian beef tasted old spongy and more like chipped beef with no Chicago Italian flavors at all, also the beef which is about 10 almost with tax is smaller than my hand and I have very small hands my ring size is 6-7 and they also gave my only 3 sweet peppers which is something that’s supposed to be a lot of and into the food for flavor, The Chicago style deep dish pizza not Chicago again no fresh natural flavors at all just taste like a semi made already frozen or packaged pizza which again he stated was homemade, I said half pepperoni half cheese the entire thing was pepperoni which tells me that’s how they come in their packages and another thing I am allergic to mushrooms which was in my pizza that I never asked for so I had to take a epi pen my entire mouth was swelling up, I am not saying this to hurt anyone rather help their business and customers alike I hope your business can do better in the future and tell the truth and hopefully in the near future you can cook some good home cooking with care and thought into it and if you need a role model there’s a Italian restaurant in Chicago called Freddy’s their beef is amazing and as for the pizza look up Connie’s they have decent deep dish. For right now at the moment it’s not worth it dear customers and as for the business I look forward to seeing you change and do extremely better in the future take care. Also you’re located inside a store literally fresh ingredients all around you, make a deal with the store to get cheap...
Read moreI'm a fat kid from Chicago, so I take my pizza seriously... Though I recommend trying their Deep Dish, I will likely only order it once more... There really is no such thing as bad pizza... but as someone who has tried as many Chicago style deep dish pies as I have... this was not good. The crust is the most boring I've ever had. It's just bread.. and bland. Toppings were sparse. Far too little sausage and onion... there were enough black olives, but not very evenly distributed. Though it was still warm when I got home, the cheese was pretty stiff... and there was not enough sauce for such a thick crust. It also looked like the lid on the oregano/spice shaker fell off... way too much dumped on top of the sauce. One of the reasons I don't like Lou Malnati's is because their sauce is too thin and not enough of it. This sauce was nice and thick, but definitely far too little of it. I'd been wanting to try this place's deep dish for about two years. I typically have a cast iron stomach. This didn't set well with me. This also may be the first Chicago style deep dish pie that I won't...
