I give it 4 stars simply for the taste. It was hands-down one of the best tasting Fisherman's platters I've had on the North Shore. Like most say, the clams were outstanding. I'm not usually a fan of clams, but these were excellent. Extremely fresh.
I take off a star and maybe a half, for the waste and the portions. Most of the plate was fries. And not good fries. They were just there to make the plate look bigger. This is common with Fisherman's platters, and I wish they'd do away with it because it's so wasteful. Normally I have more than 4 onion rings to make up for it. The onion rings are great here, but I'd like to have more than 4. I was also given a side of bread. No butter. Just bread. There is no sauce and no butter... Who eats plain bread?? Also wasteful.
The flounder, although good, was small. I ate it in about two bites.
The tartar is very good, but they give you only about a tablespoon of it and a tablespoon of ketchup. And no cocktail sauce.
In the end, I'll probably be back and I'd recommend it. I've had fish platters that stuffed me. This was not one of them. I was full, but not "stuffed." The freshness slightly out-does the smaller portion size.
If they did something about the sides, I'd be more likely to go back. I hate throwing food away. Closer to perfection would be more onion rings, fewer fries, larger containers for tartar (or asking how many I want?), larger...
Read moreHad to go to Childrens Hospital, and my child wanted fried fish so we found this place as it was close. Upon entering, you get more of a pizzeria style take-out/dine in place. We ordered the fish dinner with fries, scallop dinner with onion rings and coleslaw, and fried clam strips with onion rings. The order was finished quickly. And it did appear that the oil used isn't completely dirty. Those are the good things. Every part of the meal smelled, looked, and tasted like processed pre-packaged frozen food (literally everything) combined with no seasoning ie.. salt, pepper, old bay!!!! If we had been in midland United States, I may be more forgiving. But this is sooo close the the coast of Massachusetts, that there is literally no need to not have fresh seafood. And sooo close to the Market places such as Quincy and the Boston produce markets, that there is no need to not have fresh fries and onion rings. Heck, even if the price had reflected frozen foods it would have been acceptable. But for almost $100 for 3 meals????? Not acceptable at all. We now will be regulars at Boston Children's, and we will definitely be finding a new seafood dining experience in the area.... sorry to the kind folks working there, but the food should be fresh for your prices. Not pre-packaged...
