I wish I could do zero stars .I am typically not a reviewer, but I feel like it's my duty now considering the experience I recently had at this restaurant. So basically I go to Costco out this way and I and my family excitedly witnessed the resturant being built .We couldn't wait ,considering I am from "up top" (The north ) and frequent Chicago a lot (I know chi is Midwest btw) .So anywho ,one evening after my child's base ball game I and some relatives from out of town decided to pay them a visit ,it's just pizza what could go wrong .Ok so we arrived at 9pm the resturant doesn't close until I believe like 12 ,and with all the other restaurants closing at 9pm or 10pm we wanted to respect the other resturant and not impose coming in late,so we instead went with this place .We get inside it was a ghost town ,but the greeters were so nice ,we felt welcomed .We had about a 10 min wait time idk why but still no red flags just yet .Then we were seated ,that's when this "shaggy /hippie" like waiter approaches us he's kinda nice but also a trying to anticipate what needed but would cut us off when we were trying to say what we wanted lol .So we ordered very basic stuff ,2 salads ,4 kids meals ,a pizza ,and 20 mild wings .....So the waiter takes our order and comes back with our drinks mind you we placed the order for food and drink all at once so we were very easy going ,nice ,direct, and clear on our needs .....Waiter disappears for literally 45 mins after dropping off drinks no biggy bc we were chopping it up just talking with our loved ones .A family (A white family comes in ) very nice family infact my children were entertaining them .Why is race important ??? It's because we are not white .They come in greeted ,given saucer plates ,drinks, all in a immediate fashion while we instead would end up waiting for our food for nearly 2hrs before 2 other (white familys) that came after us ordered intricate dishes like spaghetti and meat ball ,appetizers, burgers,Salads ,The WHOLE darn menu was served before us .Atp it's now 11:20ish we got there at 9:00pm.The waiter had not come by really but when he did he did not offer refills or give an explanation as to where our food was so this lead me to ask for the manager .At this point I'm upset but more so saddened because I couldn't pass this off as an accident .There would be zero reason why two families both larger than my table both were fed and served before my family who not only got there first but also ordered basic menu items .The chef who Is supposedly the GM ,and the co owner came out .He was completely un-empathetic,somewhat dismissive, asked me "well what did you order" my response was well we ordered "4 kids meals ,2 salads,a pizza and some chicken " the look he gave me was like "oh that's it" .He then said well "l'm in the kitchen and doing the orders the best I can and your food will be out shortly " keep in mind the food wasn't even out while the other two tables were now ordering desert and all my children are 8-2yrs of age it's 11pm and they are sleepy ,and crying because we are saying we're about to leave and the babies are upset bc they are starving and waited this long to not even get to eat .When they did bring the food out the kids food seemed fresh ,hot ,wonderful looking ,while the large pizza was cold and cheese clearly long since cooled over ,chicken wings under cooked (raw) and the salad was pretty basic.I then called for that manager again and he came out this time looking super annoyed. He said look I can't tell you why your food came so late but I'm going to cover the tab .As if I was supposed to say thank you ,I looked him in the eye and told him about himself and the establishment he is running .I let them know that in 2025 racism is unacceptable, and that it will have zero space for such treatment in the near future .Go at your own risk if your a person with melanated skin .They are blatant racist, and it's a shame they are in the...
ย ย ย Read morePlaced an online order for Curbside tonight but when I arrived at Old Chicago, their parking spaces only said "To Go" parking space. Please don't offer Curbside on your website while placing an online order if you don't truly offer Curbside. I has just broken my pinky toe a few hours prior to placing my order and was counting on Curbside to help me retrieve my order. Unfortunately I hobbled my way inside only to find the entire "teenage" front staff huddled together looking at something on one of their cellphones. They were so engrossed on the cellphone that they were completely oblivious to my presence. It was Super Bowl Sunday and the restaurant was very empty of customers at 7 pm. You'd think they would have been more alert and available than usual but that was not the case. A different gal sitting off by herself on a bench finally acknowledged me. She retrieved my order, however I was missing several items. My order amount was $107, with tip, so I didn't place some measly little pizza order. The other teenagers finally pulled themselves away from the cellphone only long enough to look at me crazy, asking what I was missing. While they looked at each other perplexed, an adult employee walked up trying to pretend that I had been given everything. I had to open ALL my items so they could see what I was missing. I then asked the adult employee about my missing wings and pizza, only for him to reply that he knew nothing about that. I just told them that while they figured out where the rest of my order was I was going to carry what I had to my car, because my broken toe wasn't going to let me carry everything at once. When I returned, my wings and 2nd pizza were located. Now onto the food. The Meat Me/Green Olive Pizza was good, as was our Pepperoni Pizza. The Philly Cheese Steak rolls, were also very good. They left out the marinara sauce for the Cheese Sticks, which they were also very good, but needed the marinara sauce. The Buffalo Wings were not Well Done, as requested, and I ordered the Tall Wings, which were supposed to be all Flats, but I got a combination of Drums and Flats, which was disappointing. I didn't get to try the Baked Cookie Dessert, but it didn't look like it had enough Chocolate Chips. This was my first time trying Old Chicago. I will try them again in the future, hoping this visit was out of the ordinary. I won't give them a third try though, if my next visit doesn't...
ย ย ย Read moreI struggled to decide how to weigh my rating between the food and the experience, so I'll share the pros and cons.
The Good: -The pizza was really tasty, especially the specialty pizza we tried. We love thick crust. For better or worse, the cheese & beef pizza was reminiscent of PH personal pan pizza. We all liked the sauces. -The ambiance is well done IF someone likes a place where sportsball dominates the experience - big TVs everywhere and loud commentating -Our server seemed to make a good effort to be positive and keep us updated and make sure we got what we expected. -We we're given a long wait time, but we're seated a little sooner than expected. -The menu has plenty of interesting variety that Of like to try.
The Meh: -We don't like to dine where it's hard to have convos or not get distracted by moving pictures, but we somewhat knew what to expect and wanted to try out the food. -Some of our party are vegetarian, and the kitchen got really confused about putting all the meat on one side of a specialty pizza. It didn't come out right at all and had to be redone. We got some second-hand lip about just picking it off. -After the pizza fail, our server seemed disheartened and lost his enthusiasm for checking on us and doing refills. Maybe he got scolded in the kitchen or something. We weren't going to hold the mixup against him, but I think he expected us to, or was distracted by something. -It wasn't expected, necessarily, but we will note that there wasn't any discount or formal amends for the gaffe and waiting the extra 15-20 mins for the other half of our food. Would've been a nice touch, but not a huge deal. -This is NOT Chicago pizza. If you set that expectation, you will be happier. It is otherwise good pizza.
The Bathrooms (I love to see a well-thought-out bathroom):
(+) Multiple strongly private stalls (+) Cover audio playing (+) Hands free sink that doesn't make you touch the sides (+) Has paper towels (not blowers) (+) Pleasant/not harsh smelling soap (+) Pleasant styling
(-) Needed cleaning (-) Paper towels hang into trash receptacle (-) No trash can beside the door (I like to open the door with a paper towel so my hands...
