Severely disappointed and this restaurant needs better training for their waitresses.
My husband and I have ordered food to go from here and it's OK, nothing to write home about, but I really wanted to go inside to eat because the restaurant itself is so unique-looking. There's no ramp van parking and there's no room for a wheelchair inside anyway but it is a super small cafe, so I made it in with my cane alright.
The sign said to seat yourself, so we did. We chose the booth right next to the front door. I wouldn't have called it busy, but they were behind, so we were willing to wait for a short while, but we sat there for over 20 minutes with absolutely NOTHING. Forget getting food, we didn't even get drink orders. They didn't even GREET US. It would've been nice to get a "Hello! We'll be right with you", just FYI to the manager-- I've worked as a waitress so I understand being 'in the weeds', but the service was appalling to put it nicely. As we sat there waiting, 2 more tables came in and both of them were greeted and their drink orders taken. One of them was RIGHT NEXT to us, so I KNOW the waitress saw us! The waitress even chatted with them as if she knew them, so she must've had SOME time to greet us and take our order. We decided we must not be getting served because we aren't FROM here and the waitress doesn't KNOW us, so screw us, right? We left and they didn't even CARE that we left! No one said good-bye or asked why we were leaving. So RUDE! I honestly felt like I was being discriminated against! Whether it's because I'm not from here or because of the color of my skin, I don't know, but I am completely let down and will likely never go back or even order to-go from there again.
I'd give one star based on this experience, but we have gotten take-out...
Read moreToday was my first time eating here, and it won’t be the last! First off the atmosphere was very relaxed and welcoming. I know some people have commented about it not being social distanced but I didn’t see anyone crammed inside, and the booths are quite large so even if someone is in the booth behind you they’re not right on top of you.
I was able to find a nice secluded booth in the back anyways however, and immediately noticed how clean not only the tables were but also the floors. Even the grout looked clean, which is not what I was expecting from a “diner” themed restaurant being burned at other places in the past and was very happily relieved.
Now on to the food, another stereotype I had going in was that diner food is greasy, especially breakfast, and not in a good way. The breakfast at Diner 23 however not only was largely portioned but flavorful without the grease! Even my hash browns weren’t greasy- and tasted amazing without any salt or pepper needed! P.S. they don’t skimp you on the meat either and give you either 3 pieces of bacon, or sausage- not 2 like most restaurants, and you can get a large 16 oz of juice for under $2!
I will definitely be back to enjoy more breakfasts here, and hopefully can try the lunch/dinner soon
Btw- the staff here all were super friendly and everyone was smiling and engaging with the customers even if they were just walking to the back or grabbing a...
Read moreThe atmosphere here is tremendous ! So absolutely cute, like a trip back in time. The menu is vast and has typical diner food, and the prices are good. Our waitress was super nice. However, literally everyone else there besides our waitress were the most unpleasant people I’ve ever met running a hometown style diner. I would expect them to be friendly and welcoming - not so . The cashier particularly was snappy and discourteous . The food was just ok . But here is my real problem: I wanted a “gut buster “ ( biscuits & gravy with egg, cheese and hasbrowns) and I did not want the gravy over the eggs. I was told twice WE DON’T ALTER the entrees for anyone !! So I had to order it ala carte to get what I wanted and pay much more. When I checked out, I asked why and was told that “the cook would mess it up if people asked for special things”!! Like, WHAT ? If the cook is that incompetent then hire one that isn’t! I ran a similar diner of my own for 12 years and I would never have denied a customer what they want just because the cook is...
