My husband read about this place in GQ Magazine article about the best steakhouses in America. The fact that Maddox Ranch House made the list tells me that steaks in Utah must be really, really bad!

The restaurant is like a shiny beacon in the farmland that is Brigham City. The parking lot is huge and there's even a beef barn in the back (kind of alarming when you think about it). We visited around noon on a Saturday and the place was packed with local old timers (interestingly, most of them were doing takeout orders). We had a short wait and climbed the stairs to the upper level dining room. The atmosphere was homey and looked like your Grandma's dining room. Not much decor that keeps things plain and simple. We had to wait about 10 minutes before we were greeted by our server.

I was happy to see Diet Dr. Pepper as one of the soda options, and my husband ordered the homemade root beer (they make two different varieties). Both of our drinks were fizzy and tasty. That's one of the only positives I have to say about our food and experience here.

Every meal comes with a bread basket that includes cornbread (very good) and rolls (just okay, they reminded me of fluffy Wonder Bread) and a special raspberry butter (gross). Also included is your choice of potato (we had veggies which were a blend of broccoli and carrots and were fine but nothing notable), and a soup or salad. The soup of the day was Cheesy Vegetable and it was thick and disgusting. I'm pretty sure this wasn't homemade and was just dumped out of a frozen block of soup. I ate the broccoli out of it and couldn't bring myself to touch the rest. The house salad was mediocre but the homemade salad dressing was the standout.

This being a steakhouse, we both ordered meat. I had the filet mignon and hubby had the ribeye. First off, I'm pretty sure I did NOT get served a filet mignon. My steak looked and tasted more like a sirloin, and I think this place ripped me off. It was tough and hard to cut, even with my sharp steak knife. When have you ever known a filet to be tough? Second, the steaks weren't seasoned AT ALL. All you could taste was this unpleasant, almost bloody meat flavor (gross, I know). No amount of butter (they don't offer steak sauce on the tables) or seasoning could save this meat. This place was so bad that I've sworn off steaks for a little while.

I pushed the beef around my plate and never once was asked how everything tasted. I don't even know what I would've said, but this was a disaster of a meal. Adding insult to injury was the fact that our lunch for two cost upwards of $85. Yes, EIGHTY FIVE DOLLARS for a junk meal.

The ONLY reason I'm rating this place two stars is because of the dessert. We had the special of the day, homemade strawberry pie, and it was crazy amazing. If you insist on dining here, only get the dessert. Everything else is a...

3/1/24 Wow-failed fourth time,(dine in restaurant)-fast food side is good.

Update: fourth time there. Got the boson steak this time was better probably 3 and half stars. But wasn't cooked how I requested it to be cooked. Besides that waiter not great, it was ok.

food was ok at best, I ordered ribeye-was poopy enough I need steak sauce(which was asked for, never got). Good steak, should never, ever need steak sauce. I had better steak at lower end restaurants 😒. I had heard great things about maddox from many people, I was excited to finally have my meal there. The steak wasn't cooked how I asked, close by off. The favorite was juicy, but that's where the taste ends. The vegetables were a little uncooked and still stiff. There weren't very many, two kinds-really-down home kind of meal. My mash potatoes were colder, with the rest of many dishes(steak, not very good cold). Who puts chicken 🐔 Gravy for steak meal? I asked for brown gravy, which showed up in a very small cup, about 1 table spoon 🥄. The waiter didn't ask me what kind of gravy, freaking stupid. Then not to replace the mash potato...yuck. They were out of most of the special soda they had. The root beer tasted very water down. Lemonade was better. the service was very poor, I fired that waiter. Drinks stayed empty most of the time(two drinks in the hour and half we were seated). Other tables got their food way before they were. Everything took a very long time ⌛️. Now I get steak takes a bit, but this was abnormally long. Was also cold, I was dressed for winter weather, and it was cold in the room we were in. I was at a party of 6 adults. The rolls and corn bread 🍞 were good. But the rolls were darker brown, a little over cooked. The honey butter and Raspberry butter were good. Corn bread had two to six rolls, and corn bread was size for one person serving size. How the two that wanted to try it, that had to wait the 45 minutes, before the waiter got of his butt and just before are meal bought us more. The salad 🥗 was good size, but very green, even add cheese. The amount of ranch was very small for the ratio of salad. They need to rethink it, leaves a lot to be desired, like they steak.

I normally like leaving on positive notes 📝, but there is just not much good I can say, I really had to work to be nice and professional on this review. I eat out about 85% of meals...laughing.

Now I will stay I live very close to there place. The fast food had been very perfect and delicious. I eat there about every 8 days. With no issues. It's maybe close 4 star. I'm still trying the hole menu.

Thank you for your time. I hope it helps you out. Oh yes, I sent an email. I will let you know what they say.

Updated: I resent the email a second time. made sure the first and second got...

My husband and our family generally go to the outdoor drive in to grab burgers, fries and shakes. Every time we've order to stay we've had to get out of the car to return the tray because our waiters do not return for it. To avoid this we started ordering our food to go so we can leave when we are ready to go. Last Friday was my mom's 81st birthday and all she wanted was to go eat with all her kids and their spouses. I tried to make a reservation for 6pm but was told I could only reserve a 4pm spot otherwise we had to show up and wait in line which was totally fine. My husband and I arrived around 5:20 and reserved a spot. At the check in they asked if we would be okay to split up and sit in 2 different sections I said we wanted to sit together as we were celebrating my mom's birthday. Even without it being a special occasion I think it is an odd request to separate a party that is the to have dinner "together." A few other things happened with our check in but I won't go into that here. After being seated and placing our orders the waiter brought out our soups, salads etc and all was good. Dinner started arriving and came in 2 waves. At the end of the second batch of orders the waiter was getting ready to leave and my husband was the only person to not receive his dinner. I asked him what his food was and he looked startled and said oh yah, he doesn't have his and went to check on the order. He came back and said something about his steak being set aside because of grill problems, which made no sense since at least half of the 13 people at it table ordered streaks and received them. He asked if he still wanted it and we said yes so he went back to the kitchen. Shortly after that he returned talking about the grill again so my husband told him that if they had not already started cooking his food then to cancel it as almost every one was done eating and he didn't want to sit there eating alone. The waiter left and came back to say they had canceled his order. After that the waiter did give me my choice of 2 free desserts but honestly if I had been the waiter I would have offered to pack up his order to go and not charged him for it. I understand that it was Friday night and it was busy but if I had not asked about his meal the waiter would not have even noticed that he was sitting there without food. Then instead of just saying hey, we messed up and we are so sorry we will put a rush on it, he blamed it on the grill. My husband no longer wants to go there again and I...
