My husband and I stopped in and ordered the potato nachos. He wasn't very hungry so it was my choice. The $9 plate of chips, cheese, bacon, and spicy sour cream was a little disappointing. Before it arrived though, a swarm of flies surrounded our table and we had to keep batting them away. (No, they weren't following us, they were just in the place all over.) One even rested on my water glass. It kind of freaked us out and we didn't even have our food.
When the nachos did arrive, most disappointing (for husband) was that less than one piece of bacon was chopped onto our plate of chips. I know, because I had one little tiny piece of it, and Casey ate all the rest, and verified that there was almost none. He wasn't able to eat the chips with the spicy sour cream because it was too hot for him so he ate around those. I added Chipotle hot sauce and sriracha (yes, both!) to my plate, as well as some salt. My chips were crispy and very spicy.
As we neared the end of the chips, there were so many left with no cheese at all. The housemade chips were very good, but at that price, I would expect more cheese, more bacon, and more care to the plate that youre serving customers. Make sure it's consistent and appears well put together.
Our server (Kinder) was excellent, and at one point I think a manager also helped us and even offered to "expedite" our payment upon seeing my credit card out, but we weren't in any rush. Service was good all around. We would definitely come back to try something else or order a drink, but the potato nachos just weren't a good...
Read moreWe found the restaurant to be overall sub par. We made a reservation which we even changed the day of, and they still didn't have the table ready on time for our party of 10. We waited at least 15 minutes which is unacceptable. If I knew it would be that long, I would've left. The service was also lacking. We ordered right away, but our drinks took a long time, even just for water. The food came out shortly after which actually was relatively quick for food. This place is known for burgers, but I don't believe anyone was impressed. My burger was the BBQ one with pork, which I thought should have BBQ sauce to fit the name. It was just OK- not very juicy or tasty given the ingredients. My friend didn't like the Jalapeno burger. Everyone else thought they were fine, but for the price it was expensive (Burgers ranged $12-17). Burgers came with fries but mine were overcooked- You can get a side of fries for $4. The Jambalaya was a normal size portion in case you were expecting it to be bigger. The wings were tiny! They say it's 9 wings so you assume they are normal, but they were baby wings... Not worth the price of $8. If we saw that information in a review we wouldn't have ordered them. We will go somewhere else for dinner next time. On another note, the live music in the bar area sounded great, so maybe if you just go to the bar for a drink it's worth hanging out. We do not live in the area, so it wouldn't be a place we'd visit again.
I wouldn't recommend...
Read moreI've seen this place SO many times while I'm driving out of town... They're on the very outskirts of Petaluma, but very well-placed within an industrial part of town. Without a doubt, this place is probably really hoppin' around lunch time! Dinner might be a bit more iffy given their location, but make no mistake about it - this place should be a destination!
The food, the service, the ambience, and beer selection are all Right.On.Point. Pub Republic caters to a different kind of audience, and is a much needed high end restaurant that is so sadly lacking on the East side of Petaluma.
Personal recommendations? I haven't (yet) had the opportunity to try every last thing, but what I have had is fabulous. By all means, don't overlook the Warm Goat Cheese Beet salad! I've also had both the regular fries and the sweet potato fries - both really good, but if I have to make a recommendation, go for the sweet potato fries.
Another delight to the senses would be the 1/2 Chicken served over a roasted brussel sprout hash - the brussel sprout hash could seriously be it's own side dish! (I could eat it all day long - maybe try with a poached egg on top!)
Do yourself a favor and make the trip out Lakeville Hwy - you won't be...
