It's been forever since we've been to a Japanese steak house and this particular location has probably changed names at least twice in the last five years. On the other hand, we had one person in our party who commented that it's been that long since we've had this experience, so convinced the party to give them a try. While the place has changed names, the interior does not look any different than what I remember it from years ago. It is HUGE and long. The part by the entrance is divided into two dining rooms where you can sample items from their sushi menu, or other offerings. The back half has two rooms dedicated to their Hibachi tables. About the only more notable item on the hibachi menu was the presence of Red Snapper, so we tried that. Aside from that, it's a standard set up. You get the miso soup, the salad drenched in a ginger dressing, fried rice, noodles, and then a mixes vegetable collection and your protein of choice. The big thing, of course, is the show. In our case, we were able to watch three different cooks go through their routines. They were all average to non-descript. They were pleasant enough, smiled, and made lots of noise by banging their spatulas against the table surfaces, etc. If you've been to these kinds of places, you would recognize that it was all standard fare. The food was disappointing. They only used butter and soy sauce as seasoning. Even the sesame seeds that we used to see is gone. The yum-yum sauce and ginger sauce were presented, of course, but they seemed watered down to us. Our cook was nice enough and dealt with each of our requests politely and correctly. He did the Sake pouring routine, the throwing of the cut zucchini, and the onion volcano, etc. But again, this was nothing unusual or done with much enthusiasm. It was OK. That's just it. Just Ok. I guess it will be several to many more years before we go to another Japanese steak house...

We went here for my son's birthday. There were a lot of us so they put us in a private room in the back which I thought was nice. The waitress was great. Even with 15 of us she kept us with our drinks and everything else. The food was very good. We loved the crab rangoon. It is hard to find good ones around here and I almost didn't order them but I'm glad I did. My only complaint would be that our chef didn't speak a whole lot of English so when we was cooking the steak it was difficult to try to tell him who wanted medium rare, medium, medium well, well. We had to kind of watch it and then tell him when to take it off and who to give it to. Except for that everything else was great. He did speak some English so we could talk to him. We like this place compared to other Hibachi places because it is quieter and not super busy. They also have a nice bar. It's very clean inside. When we were finished with our meal they put on birthday music and brought my son out fried ice cream and lit candles for him. The waitress also offered to take a picture of all of us which I thought has so nice. The food was very good and everyone was so polite. This was our 2nd time there for a birthday in less than a month!

Phenomenal food and employees 💙 My grandma and I decided to order food to go while in the car at Giant Eagle and then when I saw how big the restaurant is inside, we decided to eat inside (my first experience eating in a restaurant in 2 years!). The employees were patient and understanding and wonderful. The food is the best I've ever had, hands down! My grandma even decided the sushi looked good enough to try for the first time and enjoyed it! Thankful to the phenomenal employees who made this a wonderful experience for us both in the midst of crazy times. I appreciate you all and I hope you stay safe and healthy. Thank you for all you do! You are saving lives (today you saved us from our shopping hunger/hanger!)

UPDATE #2- REMOVED A STAR

Had dinner w/ my daughter here tonight. Waiter forgot our soup and salad (didn't forget the other 2 tablemates that came in after us though) until I brought it to his attention. Filet, rice and veggies were good. Half the shrimp were burnt and noodles tasted burnt but weren't crispy. Waiter was MIA for half our time there so I had an empty glass for a while. Cook accidentally peppered me w/ hot grease on my hand, arm, neck and cheek while cleaning the grill. UPDATE- So we decided to give Ichiban another chance for a birthday celebration and we weren't disappointed. Everything was top notch. Server was fast and polite, cook was accommodating (we don't like our meats saturated with seasonings), and wife enjoyed her sangria. I think they removed some of their habachi tables tho.

  • This used to be our go to for Japanese Steak Houses in the area and would dine-in a few times a year. No longer after last night. Service was friendly but very slow. As for drinks, my wife had a sangia that she said tasted like red wine w/ fruit juice, no fruit garnish. I tasted a mojito that was anything but. It tasted like lime juice with lime wedges and mint sprigs thrown in. I gave it back to the server and it was removed as it should. Our grill mates, one of them ordered a madras. The server returned after a few minutes and asked her was was in it because the bartender didn't know?!? Server returned again and informed her that they didn't have any of the ingredients to make a madras, no vodka, no OJ, no cranberry?!? Someone came up to me and asked how my "mojito" was and I advised her it wasn't a mojito. Her response was "it was made from a recipe"

We had approximately a 10 wait from the time we finished our salad and soup and the cook started. He was ok but needs more experience, he dropped his utensils too many times. Food was decent but saw that they use chicken tenders instead of chicken filets.

After dinner, the wait begins. 20 mins to get our bill. Saw 3 other tables also waiting for their bills. Had to catch the waiters at the POS system and ask her for a third time for our bill. We had to search for and retieve our own to go containers because we asked twice for them with no response. Same for our grill mates.

Throughout waiting periods we talked to our grill mates. They too had been dining there since it opened / changed names and they too loved it. They said recently it's gone down hill, 50/50 whether it's gonna be good. While we were waiting for our checks, one said "70/30 maybe 80/20 bad" and this was the last straw.

While waiting for our check it looked like 1 waitress was trying to cover the...

We have been dining at this ichiban location for years, but we are ready to find another place for sushi. We were first attracted to Ichiban, because the service and the sushi were top notch! We are not hibachi fans, so I cannot speak to that part of their business.

First of all, the quality of the service has gone downhill. The last two times, we were not well taken care of. For example, on our June 7th visit we waited 45 minutes for our first dish to arrive at our table and everything we ordered arrived at different times leaving my family eating at separate times. We ordered both sushi and appetizers/side dishes from the kitchen. Also, I actually got tired of waiting for a tuna roll that my daughter ordered, so I we t over to the sushi bar and it was just sitting there. So, I took it and served myself. I also needed to fetch my own soy sauce and dish for it. The waiter never checked back when dropping our food off nor did he offer refills on our beverages.

In terms of quality, if you want delightful sushi, do not order the "bottomless sushi." The quality of the sushi for all you can eat is significantly different than what you will get if you just order sushi by individual pieces and rolls. My daughter ordered the bottomless and I ordered individually. Her pieces were overstuffed with rice and the pieces of fish were very small. My individually ordered pieces were perfectly proportioned and not fluffed with rice and skimped on with the fish like the all you can eat.

Yesterday, my daughter insisted we go to Ichiban for sushi even though I suggested other places. I relented and we went for what will be out last time. Again, the sushi we received for all you can eat was overstuffed with rice and the fish barely covered the top of the rice it was so small. The salmon sushi I ordered was slimy.

The service was fair at best with the waitress bringing the wrong soups, delivering my salad well after my appetizers and sushi arrived, and then telling us the manager would charge me extra for not eating the exhorbinate amount of rice used for each piece of sushi. That's when I told her to send the manager my way.

The manager acted as if the fluffed up sushi was a surprise and told me she wanted to confirm my story with the sushi chef - which apparently he admitted to. When I told her the salmon was slimy, she tried to tell me it was the "belly meat." There is no such thing as the belly meat, and believe me, if there was it would be twice the price!

The manager assured me that she would take care of this situation and would like us to come back, but that is...
