1/11/2025. We had a most delicious dinner at Blue Corn celebrating my birthday. As always, the food, and service were excellent. Thank you!
9/22/22 went here for our anniversary dinner, and as always, the food and service was perfect. We shared the mini tacos special and they were delicious! One was refried beans, one was potato, one was chicken and one pork. I had the sabana, which is a thin steak with refried beans and cheese. My husband had the shrimp and we shared dessert. Everything was perfect. I always said they should bottle their tamarind margherita, it's so very good. I highly recommend Blue Corn, it's truly one of my favorite restaurants. Thank you for your really good food!
11/15/21 update. Went for an impromptu dinner and everything was wonderful from our server, to our drinks, to our dinner. The food is made to order, presented beautifully and is delicious! Thank you!
We went on Christmas Eve, early afternoon, and sat outside. The food is just as good as it always has been. Safety protocols are being followed and our servers were really nice. I have not found a tamarind margarita as good as Blue Corns. It's absolutely delicious! My husband had the lamb special, my son the sabana, my daughter the ceviche and I had the blue taco's. Delicious and presented beautifully! Thank you, Blue Corn, for our delicious meal! 12/26/20
We recently went to Blue Corn to celebrate our daughter's birthday. I have to say the bartender makes really flavorful cocktails. I had the tamarind Margherita, and it was awesome. We now have to add Blue Corn as a place to get delicious chicken nachos. They were so very good! I had the Sabana, which is a thin, flavorful steak, my daughter had the Cubano, which could literally feed 3 to 4 people...the sandwich was awesome. My husband had the steak special, the ribeye and plantains were cooked to perfection. As always, the place is clean, the servers so very nice and we love it here. My son asked for an authentic Mexican restaurant that we could walk to and we opted for the Blue Corn. It was an excellent choice. It's a warm, clean, friendly restaurant with attentive servers and delicious food. Like their name, their chips, tacos, Huaraches are made of blue corn. My son had the Huaraches, which is an ovaI shaped tortilla with your choice of topping. he chose the chorizo. I had the tacos pastor which is pineapple and pork. We were given chips and salsa while we waited for our food. Delicious! Our food arrived beautifully presented and hot, which means it was freshly made and it was delicious! I opted for dessert and had a piece of cheesecake which was also homemade and delicious! We can now add Blue Corn to one of our favorite Mexican...
Read moreThis is a great cozy little Mexican joint in South Philly. I've been here twice and had a great meal both times. Chips and salsa: They make their own chips and salsa. The chips are blue corn, obviously, and you get a green and red salsa. I enjoyed the red salsa more as it was smokier and sweeter, whereas the green was more cilantro and earthy. I figure the red salsa was a chipotle salsa. Pastor nachos: I had never heard of pastor, which is spit-grilled pork. The couple we were with ordered it. It was very good. The construction of the nachos, which is very important to me, was excellent, all chips were covered well with meat, beans, cheese, etc. You were able to get a bit of everything with every chip you pulled out. Pulpo En Su Tinta: this was octopus, over what I would describe as a black ragu made of poblano pepper, onions, chipotle peppers and squid ink. There was also some Mexican rice on the side. My only complaint was that the were only 2 pieces of octopus. The octopus was cooked perfectly, the best way to describe the ragu stuff was it tasted very seafoody. It wasn't fishy, just salty and seafoody. It was very interesting, and unique. I like to mix everything on my plate up and eat it together so I mixed it with the rice and chopped up the octopus and put it on the bit of bread that came with it. It was a great unique taste. If you are looking to try something different I highly recommend. When I ran out of bread I used one of my dining mates Cilantro tortillas to make a taco. The home made tortillas were excellent. Margarita macho: this was a margarita with jalapeno and cilantro in it. I've had some margaritas with jalapeno in them before. I really like the little bit of heat with the tangy of the lime and kick of tequila. You definitely get a bit of residual heat but nothing that is unbearable if you like spicy. Service was excellent. The wait staff was knowledgeable and able to answer our questions about the menu. The bill for 4 people we 145. So after tip it was about 45 per person. Split the one app and had 2 drinks along with our entrees. For the quality and uniqueness of the dishes. I don't have a problem...
Read moreWe had been meaning to try this place for a while and now that we have I'm glad that we did.
The menu has a ton of options. We ultimately went with the blue corn tacos (which felt like an obvious choice) and the seafood stew special. The el pastor blue tacos were... pretty good. The tacos themselves were actually a bit thinner than I would expect but the filling was quite nice. The hot sauce on the side was a really nice addition. And the cooked green onions that it came with was a surprising and delicious addition. The seafood stew was the star: so much seafood (albeit you pay the price for it-almost all of the entrees are a bit on the pricier side actually). I was surprised they served bread to dip into the delicious broth given that it's a Mexican restaurant but this was a good touch. The white fish and shrimp were really nice. The clams and mussels were fine-nothing terribly special. But overall excellently seasoned.
The drink menu is extensive. Cash only. Nestled into an adorable area of Little Italy. The service was extensive. We were super looked after and there were a ton of employees, many of whom served different roles and we ended up being catered to really closely. Definitely...
