When a web site lists as one of its amenities "secure, discounted indoor parking" without telling you that this parking is not on site and is actually multiple blocks away, trips get ruined. Ours just did. We're not city people, and we're not familiar with Philadelphia. Most hotel guests aren't. When we drove by the building and couldn't find a parking entrance, we called and were told that the parking garage the hotel is "affiliated with" is at another address. In what way, then, does the hotel have parking? While driving through congestion in an unfamiliar city, we hurried to update our GPS and saw how far we were from the parking garage (it appeared to be seven blocks by that time, but was probably only three). We would've had to park, unload our luggage, and huff it on foot to the hotel only to leave again a few hours later to see the Phillies. Then we would've had to get back to the garage after the game and again trek back to the hotel. We're young and fit, but we had also spent the afternoon traversing the massive museum of art. We had chosen the hotel because of its proximity to the historic sites, but it hadn't occurred to me that a hotel that boasts of "amenities to make you feel right at home" would in fact be doing some false advertising. I hadn't expected key information to be withheld. Once we learned that the stadium was employing the laughable honor system for non-vaccinated mask-wearing, we scrapped this plan also and decided to forget the entire second part of our trip because it was becoming more of a hassle than it was worth. Is it entirely the hotel's fault that our plans went awry? No, but it doesn't help to be guided by false claims. We never even saw the room we paid for, nor any of the historic sites that we were supposed to see. Instead, we headed home by way of King of Prussia mall, which actually does...
Read moreWhile it's neat that the building is historic (which I normally love), the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the room I was in had a cool view, that's about all that's good about this hotel.
The walls are TISSUE PAPER thin, so you can very clearly hear absolutely everything your neighbors are doing at ALL HOURS. I made a call down to the desk at 12:30/12:45am to ask if someone could ask them to quiet down, but it barely did anything. While I usually sleep with earbuds at night listening to some quiet noise, it wasn't until the next day in which someone else at the desk said that I should have been offered earplugs that the staff keep for guests. You have to request the remote to the AC unit and there's no way to control the heat in the room. If you're cold, you can ask for a space heater. There's no mini-fridge, or anything in the room to make hot water for yourself. What this establishment calls "breakfast" is frustrating. Many hotels are using COVID as a reason to cut back on food costs. However, if a hotel is going to offer to-go items, at least include something substantive! I'm all for taking things to go for safety reasons, but coffee, tea, semi-thawed grocery store bagels (sans toaster), croissants, one bowl of oranges and one bowl of solid green bananas is pitiful. As the bagels and mini cream cheese tubs were previously refrigerated, putting out something like pre-packaged hard boiled eggs or yogurt minis would have at least been slightly more nutritional.
Overall, very thankful I found a deal on Expedia; otherwise, I would've felt even more ripped off with what this place was priced for the time...
Read moreMy husband and I love the charm of older hotels and have been to many across America and Europe. We were in Philadelphia, our first time, for my husband's 60th Birthday. November of 2022. We arrived just before 1pm and although check in is later....our room was ready. We booked a deluxe king bed. Sharena was such a joy working the reception desk. She made some excellent suggestions for a great Philly Cheesteak place...off the beaten path & where locals go. We took her advice and it was an outstanding suggestion. She had a lovely smile for us every day and was helpful with whatever questions we had. Our room was adorable and clean. Okay...I need to stop here as some people who leave reviews do not understand this hotel was built over 200 years ago. It is in the historic registry of buildings. The building was restored. The tile work is old and cracked but still beautiful. The crown molding in reception and wood paneling is gorgeous...I loved the original tile work. It is old but clean. Our room is a bit small but it was plenty of room for us. The sheets and comforter was clean. Bath towels were large & fluffy. Our bathroom was small but again it's an antique hotel. It was clean and had everything we needed. What makes this hotel great is location! Its close to all the usual sights. Plenty of eating close by. A Starbucks is a 5 minute walk. In the evening Max took over the reception desk. He was so gracious and helpful with all of our questions. My husband and I were able to walk almost every where from this hotel. It was a good value for the money and we felt safe. We were...
