The lunch specials are cheap, good eats, especially for the neighborhood. (No more than $15 pp with a drink). The restaurant appears to be accessible, as well. (See bathroom images).
We’ve eaten here a few times, but this time I actually took some pictures for you.
We can work from home on Fridays and stroll the half mile and scoop a lunch special, dine in, pay, and get home all within an hour. We usually get two rolls plus the miso or the salad which comes with the ginger miso fruity dressing thing.
We’ve also had the ramen and it’s good.
Try their iced tea that they make there. They brew it upon request, and they have different flavors available. We’ve had the peach and the mango. If you want it, I advise ordering it first/with your entree/app because they are brewing it as you order it.
I’ve ordered the nigiri and sashimi and they could accommodate my palate, as well (I don’t like salmon).
So we do usually get the lunch special of two rolls with soup or salad. I end up with spicy crunchy tuna and something else and my partner has the Philly plus something else. We’ve never been disappointed. The fish is fresh (if you’ve been to the Italian market—where this is located—you’ll understand).
The service is great. You walk in and they’re usually ready to seat you. They take your order fairly quickly if you’re ready. They have canned sodas and ramune in addition to the tea I’ve recommended.
Re: a11y It is close to the curb at Christian and 9th (2 storefronts in, I believe), and has no step up to get in. The doors are manual, so a person in a wheelchair may need assistance. Not sure of width of front door. Sushi counter may be accessible to motorized wheelchairs with higher seats. Bathroom appears accessible but, again, person in a wheelchair may need assistance opening the door as it’s manual and doesn’t provide clearance for opening. Bars. Sink is not automatic nor is it elongated but it’s rather spacious and the door appears to be wide enough. Would be interested to hear if folks in wheelchairs have been in and what their...
Read moreI had high expectations based on the reviews, but it was a little disappointing.
Service: It was superb. The waitress was phenomenal and attentive to my needs.
I ordered three things: the takoyaki, a special roll with tuna and spicy salmon, and the tonkotsu ramen.
The takoyaki was too sweet for my taste bud. It was well made, and you could taste the octopus. However, I wouldn't say I liked tasting the dough consistency in the middle of each ball. It needs a little more time to cook.
The special roll was fantastic. I love the different textures that it provides.
The ramen was the most disappointing item. The broth was a little bland. It needs more tare to give it a distinct flavor. The broth also lacks complementary oil. If a tonkotsu broth does not leave a coating oil on the surface after 5 minutes, the broth lacks fattiness.
The chashu was a slight lack in flavor as well. It either lacks the time for it to be thoroughly marinated. The cut was also a little thin.
The boiled egg was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately, it lacks the same drawback as the other. It needs more time to marinade fully.
The ramen overall lacks direction to where it wants to take people to.
Come and check it out yourself, maybe you have a...
Read moreFabulous ramen AND sushi at a shockingly reasonable price
This place is a favorite of my spouse's & mine. I would have never thought a place that did both ramen and sushi in the Italian Market of all places would be even remotely good, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The sushi quality is outstanding, putting to shame even some of the dedicated sushi joints scattered through the city. And the ramen is positively delightful, rich and deep in flavor to the last drop. To top it off, every time we settle up we end up pleasantly shocked at the reasonable price. Couldn't ask for more.
Don't be an ignorant buffoon like me, dismissing this place outright because of its location, or scoffing at the sushi not possibly being good if they're not a dedicated sushi shop. You'll miss out on some truly outstanding food....
