Dear Fountain Porter,
Hi! I hope you all had a good shift tonight. I am sharing this review because I am in the industry, and it honestly hurts I have to write it...
I know your burgers are delicious and beyond affordable. So when a guest ask if you take temperates on a burger, I believe he or she would or should receive what they asked for . I am pretty sure we may not agree on this. I say this only because who dares ask for a cheeseburger well done? It sacrilege, right?! Especially at 6$? How dare they?
This guy right here. It's crazy. I understand you all are busy, but if I spend my hard earned monies for a simple 6$ cheeseburger, I would expect it done the way I asked.
It is simple, right? I mean, it is a simple request for a simple cheeseburger.
What's totally not cool is because I was truly looking forward to finishing and enjoying my cheeseburgers. It was my dinner and I had to toss both of them. I share this after I found a bent up staple in my cheeseburger the last time I was there- maybe the week before last?
The only reason why I am sharing this now is because I thought to myself, " there is no way a bent staple was in my cheeseburger, and how can I even share this when the cheeseburger was on $6?"
On top of that to get some med-rare burgers when there are 2 options - med rare or well done (maybe that is not the case), and when your guests have the option of choosing which temperatures, it is not acknowledged, and I come again to check you out?
I will say this, the staff seemed genuine, yet busy. The fries were dope. Your guests were polite and friendly- I appreciate that.
Am I wrong for sharing this? I mean, I am all about supporting the industry and small businesses when I can, but good golly.
I was hungry. I had to toss the foods because I cannot eat burgers this way. Not Kool guys!
Have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis was my second time going here. The first time was just ok, which is why it took me so long to return. The drink selection was ho hum, the burger too salty, the space a little too warm, the bartender nice, though, and the music ok but also not anything to really care about.
2 years later and I still thought for $6 the burger is just ok. It does not deserve the hype and 'best of' accolades it gets. They're consistently overly salted with some sort of giant crystallized salt and the untoasted buns fall apart immediately. They're cool for $6 when you've had a few, though. The fries ($4 extra) are just a soggy over salted mess.
The drinks selection is also just fine. I saw nothing on their small list of or wine and beer to care about, let alone get excited for.
Despite the cheap burger I won't be back after last night. When I first got there it was already too hot in there. The AC was on but just barely and then, inexplicably, they turned the AC off and opened one single window behind the bar.
After two drinks I just couldn't handle it anymore - who can drink alcohol in a sweltering room? The drinks didn't stay cold for more than a minute or two and then you're just drinking warm beer in a sauna.
I was with a group of co-workers and this wasn't just me being grumpy - all 7 of us left angry and soaked in sweat. On a 92° day it should not feel nicer stepping outside of the bar.
One person in our party joked about waiting until winter to go back. Another asked the person that suggested we go to Fountain Porter if this has been some kind of torture experiment. If this is how they treat the customers and run a business I have zero interest in supporting them ever again.
If you need a burger and a beer just go to Pope a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had a terrible experience here. My friends and I ordered a round of drinks and were sitting at the bar chatting and having a great time. We noticed a long while had passed, and the bartender hadnāt been over to check on us. We called her over to order another round, and she said she would serve us only if we quieted down because we were ākilling the vibe in hereā and that we could either quiet down and have another drink or leave. āItās up to you.ā
My friends and I are teachers on summer break. We were having a great time, but we were not by any means inappropriately loud. We were talking/laughing at a volume thatās appropriate for a typical bar setting.
If we were a little too loud for the āvibeā at this particular pub, there are much more respectful ways to ask us to quiet down. There was no reason for this bartender to first ignore us and then reprimand us. Iāve never felt so unwelcome.
South Philadelphia is a warm and welcoming place and always has been - thatās the āvibeā here. I should know, because Iāve lived here my whole life. If youāre choosing to operate a neighborhood bar, maybe you should focus on making the people who live and work in the neighborhood feel welcome! Weāre loud, lovable, and fun. I guess this boring, overrated, snooty place just doesnāt...
