I feel compelled to update my Second Daughter review because I keep trying so many wonderful things! Second Daughter is fantastic and one of my favorite bakeries. The level of deliciousness, quality, creativity, and consistency of Rhonda & team’s creations is unmatched. They may be renowned for brownies, but there’s so much more going on.

I have discovered so many favorites here: brownies, of course (Best of Philly, Reese’s, walnut), babka, chocolate chip cookies, brockies (brownie-cookies), muffins, focaccia, cake slices, and fruit galettes. There have been no misses yet. Even the pumpkin pie, which I’m typically not a fan of, has me going in for a second slice!

If you’ve never been, I suggest beginning with the babka, Best of Philly brownies, brown butter chocolate chip cookies, and seasonal fruit galettes. Those are my absolute favorites…out of my favorites.

There is love baked into each creation, and it’s evident in every bite. Visit their bakery at Bok (limited hours, 4th floor), stop by the Rittenhouse Farmers Market on Tuesdays, and be sure to follow on Instagram...

Excellent bakery, but I have some suggestions to make it much more accessible to folks. I was very confused about this place for a long time. Several other people in the neighborhood I asked were also completely confused about this place.

Update the gmaps listing to make it clear this is on the 4th floor of the Bok building.

Add some photos to reinforce that the location is indoors, in a hallway, a converted classroom. Photos should also show the items you can buy without preordering.

Get some signage on the 1st floor, probably near machine shop, indicating there's another bakery upstairs. There's one tiny sign near the desk in the middle of floor 1, but otherwise it's pretty undiscoverable.

Update your website to make it clear you can buy things without preordering in advance. The site says you can do pickup at your location, but it implies in most places you need to preorder.

Fix the broken links to ordering pages that are dead. I thought this place must've gone out of business with all...

if you’re headed here from that tiktok about the best breakfast sandwich in philly don’t bother. 1. it’s super hard to find. 2. they don’t do any substitutions (can’t even make the sandwich without bacon). Yeah not everything is for everyone but does it kill you to take my money for the same price and keep your bacon? I wouldn’t have thought so, but alas here we are lol. The building it’s in is super cool and worth checking out other businesses. I’m sure they have other delicious things but i was on mission and i had even called before and no one picked up so i couldn’t even ask about the bacon thing before spending my morning trekking to get this “viral” sandwich. My bad for spending my week looking forward to this. don’t waste your time if your endgame is the sandwich and you don’t eat bacon. they want you to...

GOOD but expensive, so bring a friend to share. FOOD -breakfast sandwich: is massive and easily split for 2 people. Tasty, savory, and all forces locked. Decadent bacon, incredible bread, and ok eggs (they need to be cooked a tad longer). Delicious and a must get. -galette: different options here. We got the cherry almond and loved it. -brownie: these were a huge letdown. Very average tasting. Suggest passing on these (which is disappointing given they have so many options). The “best of Philly” brownie tasted straight out a Betty Crocker box. Be cautious - some of the prices are highway robbery. $12 for a blueberry scone? Granted the breakfast sandwich was $14 but easily split between two people.

I came across this bakery from an Instagram post- I saw a picture of their brown butter chocolate cookies and went “wow, that looks incredible, I have to try it”. I placed the order for those anddd their award winning brownies because why not? When in Rome. When I say these two items are the best baked goods I’ve ever had in my life, like BEST EVER, that is not an exaggeration. You can tell that their ingredients are the best quality they could get, made with the utmost love and care, and not to mention talent for baking. I will be buying their goods forever & for every special occasion I ever have!

Update: peach cobbler is phenomenal, as expected. Easily the best I've had. I've been to Second Daughter at least 4 times for different items and have been wow'd each time. Arguably the best bakery in Philly. The Brocky is outstanding. They scatter globs of their brown butter chocolate chip cookie dough on the brownie batter. The brownie is phenomenal on its own, but the cookie adds layers of brown sugary, buttery flavor and chewiness. They lightly sprinkle sea salt that creates bursts of sweet and salty bites. I can't imagine there is a better brookie in the region.
