If you don't know Stocks you should. Everyone here knows Stocks. It is a bakery legend in here in Philly. It should be on any and every Philly food tour. Recently Kylie Kelcie talked about how serious cake is to her, and shes a Stocks girl too! They are known for the most amazing pound cake. It seriously tastes better than any other pound cake you have ever had, I promise. I've been a Stock's fan forever but ive never been to their legendry bakery, until today! It lived up to the hype!
We pre-ordered their famous Easter Egg pound cake! They are so gorgous and still only $15! Their regular pound cakes are sold in bricks weighed by the pound. Also when you buy a brick it's wrapped in celphane paper ready to freeze but they cover each brick with butcher paper too which is something I did not know. Bricks come plain or Iced. There are chocolate and vanilla Icing options. I tried to see If there was a menu with all the cake options but I didnt see one on their website or in store. Navigating the website was very difficult. I hope they fix that because websites are helpful.
We got there at 3:00 and the bakery was sold out of all bread and most of the pastries. We were able to get some cookies that were amazing. We got sprinkle cookies and jelly. I expected them to taste the same, but the dont. They are two totally different cookies. Both are equally as good. The sprinkle cookie tastes more like butter cookie. Highly recommend trying them both if you can. Cookies are $10 a pound which was 26 cookies. Other cookie spots In the city operate at a much higher price point. I appreciate how budget friendly all the pricing was to kero their food accessible to everyone.
Also, I did not know that you can do fund raisers with the bakery. They even have a fundraiser coordinator. Im Interested to see how this works because I raise funds for 2...
Read more~I just moved in on the same block, & noticed the hordes of people lining up on Friday/Saturday before Easter. I had to see what Stocks Bakery was all about..
First impressions: Upon entrance it was like walking into my grandmamas kitchen as a child for desert time at a big family party. Mesmerized by the assortments of pastries & cakes on display, all the while drooling from my mouth, & the aroma teasing my sense of smell.
I decided to go with the traditional white icing pound cake(pictured)...im not lying when I say a slice of this pound cake was so devilishly delectable, I had a 2nd slice & went to Heaven. I am looking forward to going back to try a new treat, after I have a chance to work off those previous slices of pound cake.
Recommendations: Stocks Bakery is fairly easy to walk by with a small decal & window, inside décor is a bit dated, but I guess it adds to the 5 generation family owned business nostalgia. I would personally add a POS system to increase sales & customer base, but then again I can understand the "old world" way of doing all cash business.
The Don approves of this establishment &...
Read moreIf you're from Philly, you already know—Stock’s Bakery is legendary. From their perfectly moist pound cake to the cookies, everything they make is packed with tradition and love.
But let me tell you about the babka. They only make it twice a year— Easter and Christmas—and trust me, it’s worth the wait. Moist, sweet, and comforting in a way that’s hard to put into words. For me, it’s personal. My Mom-Mom used to love Stock’s babka. Even though she’s gone, my mom and I get it every time it's available and think of her while we enjoy it.
What makes Stock’s special is that they don’t change—they don’t have to. The bakery runs like a well-oiled machine, sticking to what they do best. There’s something incredibly comforting about walking in and knowing exactly what to expect: unbeatable quality baked goods that have never, not once, let me down.
It’s been a part of my family’s story for generations, and I look forward to sharing that love with as many people as I can. If you’ve never tried Stock’s—go. It’s a 10/10, always has been,...
