Takka Grill & Shrimpies — Restaurant in Philadelphia

They’re only getting one star due to it being a requirement of the post. They could NEVER get a penny out of me again. Ordered through Uber Eats which added an additional 9$ because of all the fees. I paid $20 for a dozen fried shrimp platter and two sides. First of all their shrimp were FROZEN BREADED SHRIMP YOU FIND AT THE LOCAL SHOPRITE. With frozen broccoli and nooooooooooo butter or seasoning. And let’s not even talk about their dried out macaroni and cheese. It tastes as if it’s been sitting for several days then scooped into containers to serve. Then the other platter I ordered was half dozen fried shrimp which was also breaded and frozen shrimp but, how about this: one of the shrimp were missing. Now three years ago I’ve sat inside for a quick drink and ordered Shrimp and they were not that type. I see now that all they do is go to a market, buy some frozen products for low prices, then slap it together to sell at three times the price. This place is a joke. And I’m surprised their still standing....

Hidden Gem! This place got great grilled food! I’ve had a few things off their menu but my fave’s are the beef short ribs and grilled chicken and shrimp platter! Their yams and mash/ gravy are made from scratch and with love. The menu is extensive and their are so many options to choose from. Besides what I’ve posted, I have also tried their butterfly shrimp, crispy hot wings and Mac&cheese.

Cons:

Parking: You will drive right past it twice before you find it and Google Maps will send you the back way to get there. It’s in a weird parking lot behind something like a bar

Location: it’s pretty much a hole-in-the-wall location. Upon going inside, it looks like it’s in the process of shutting down as 80% of the establishment is packed up and just the kitchen is available. You cannot eat-in, it’s strictly “take out” only. When you come, you have to ring a bell to tell them you are there and if your food not ready, no worries, it will be worth the wait.

Stay away from this place. I use to order from them via Grubhub. For the most part food was ok, but last night order came and shrimp was spoiled. Called restaurant to alert them...not looking for anything but just to warn them of a problem. Person I spoke with said food was fine. I tried to explain there maybe a problem, I was told to callback later! I called GrubHub to let them know about the problem, the person I spoke to there apologized checked my profile and saw I ordered many times from Takka. He said he was going to call them to advise about a potential problem. A few minutes later, I received a call back from the GrubHub rep., who stated the person he spoke to at Takka was extremely rude and had cursed him out for inquiring about a possible problem. All this to me is strange and troubling... I think my next recourse is to contact the health dept and advise them of a potential problem. In the meantime STAY AWAY FROM TAKKA for your...
