Desperate times call for desperate measures!!! Good thing To-Kai was not a desperate measure. Here’s the backstory: a group of 10 out of towners noobs booked an airbnb relatively in the area. Our best friend (@ayy_bendito) got booked to play a gig in the hood. We ignorantly made a dinner reservation at a Mexican restaurant in center Philly not realizing how far away it was. If we were to go to our original destination we would have missed our friends set because of travel time. Which would have made this whole trip pointless. We had no choice but to cancel the reservation an hour before we were supposed to go. It’s hard to find a last minute reservation for a group of 10 on a Saturday. There was a possibility that we could have starved. Good thing To-Kai was here to save the day! Menu is huge. There is something for everyone. If someone can’t find something to eat here, their palette is obsolete. My friend was super excited to find that they had a Philadelphia delicacy on the menu: scrapple! Specifically duck scrapple baos. He paired it with a Ramun soda and was literally in paradise. I’m more simple. I got the Trio Sushi Dinner. I was satisfied and not starving. Out of the group of 10 of us only one of my friends had a complaint. My friend who ordered a margarita did not enjoy it at all. He is of Latin decent and is a margarita connoisseur. The margarita here didn’t live up to his Latin standards. Which is a fair statement to make. He loved his sake though. Bonus points: my friends dog is named Kai. Kai is a very good dog. He must know the owners here.

My first restaurant experience in the USA. It was decent. For me, it was not a high-end fine dining place that I often go to. There was nothing negative in my experience. Let me get on with it... Positives: 1. Good food. No complaints at all. We were 3 adults and a child, we ordered salads, sushi, Fish Branzino, all of them were good. 2. Ambiance: correct. Not loud. A little cramped for space. 3. Correct service. More hospitable than any French restaurant that I have been to! 🙄🙄 Service is also fast. 4. Correct pricing Negatives: 1. As I was saying, maybe a little cramped for space. 2. A little overboard with the mood lighting. But then that is a personal taste. I reckon there would be people who may prefer it. I do not. Do I recommend it? Will I return? If I'm in the area, if I'm looking for good fish, or if my partner is looking for sushi, why not.

My boyfriend and I went for the first time on a Wednesday night! Service was great and all of the food came out super fast. Our dishes were huge. We were impressed. Halfway though eating my boyfriend found a long metal staple in his rice, we informed the staff so they could avoid feeding it to anyone else. The waiter was very nice and asked the manager to discount our meal and she gave us our couple dollar appetizer free. Considering both of our meals were over twenty dollars and the sharp staple could have pierced through any part of his digestive tract that was not fair compensation. Today I have awful food poising and the only thing him and I didn't share was the chicken. The chicken was likely undercooked as that was the last meal I had of the day. Overall, it started really good but ended horribly. We will never be going back as it is a safety risk!

I ordered food and picked it up. It was handed to me in a brown paper bag. I did NOT order extra soy sauce and it was inside the bag in a plastic container that opened while I was driving home. Soy sauce leaked through the bag onto my car seat. Why was my order not in a plastic bag if someone put soy sauce that could potentially open and spill? When I called to let them know I did not order soy sauce on the side and that it should have been in a plastic bag, the manager apologized but did NOT offer to compensate me in any way, I don't expect them to clean my seat but they certainly don't want to make good on their mistakes. I will likely not go back for that reason, I find that grimy and do not appreciate a $20 meal to cost me much more in cleaning fees.

The pictures below are of the food we ordered. For our appetizers we ordered dumplings. and the vegetable tempura. Both were amazing. For our meals, I ordered the steak and chicken hibachi, and my gf got the shrimp and chicken. It was amazziiinnggggg. Service was fast, and attentive. I would definitely go back, without hesitation. In fact, I’ve been meaning to do just that; I’ve been craving those amazing dumplings. Update: Today I visited on Mother’s day, and the experience was the total opposite. We were a party of 4, seated with another party of 4, totaling 8 people. Instead of them bringing more food, to accommodate everyone, the skimped out. The first two pictures are from previous experiences, the third is the most recent.

I’ve had it with Tokai. Used to be the best sushi place in northeast but they are horrible now. We ordered every Friday from them, went in for all birthdays and holidays.. but they just got lazy. Customer service is the worst. Truly the worst. They are too expensive to be this bad, Tom yum soup is $21 dollars and they will manage to forget to pack it for your delivery. They vacuum around you when you come in, they are rude, rush you out, the menus are DISGUSTING, they have rolls names like iPhone 4S.. and that was the last time they cared. Outdated, rude customer service, dirty place, expensive… don’t waste your money.
