Generally speaking, the cakes, cookies and pastries at Kumi's Cakes and Pastries are amazing and the filling/buttercream in each pastry is out of this world.

This review is for 2 special orders that was done at Kumi's Cakes and Pastries. We are ever so grateful to her for accepting our order amidst her very hectic schedule. We provided her with the list of items and she helped us choose the "perfect" filling for each pastry. We could not have been more pleased with the result. All pastries/snacks were a hit at the party. She makes everything from scratch and her Sri Lankan eclairs (chocolate chocolate eclairs) are the best. I don't think we can find anything closer to that even in Sri Lanka. She's a "PRO" in pastries and cakes and the best we've met so far. She is very detail oriented and puts her heart and soul into her work. I'll be purchasing all our special occasion baked goods from her. My wife's birthday fell on black friday this year and i was desperate for a birthday cake . I tried shoprite and wal mart but , was turned down by both because i hadn't notified them within the 24hr time limit. So , i called Kumi Cakes and Pastries right here in Phillipsburg on South Main street aound 12:30 noon and pleaded my case. Without hesitation , i was helped . I had ordered a red velvet cake with cream cheese icing (my wifes favorite) and it was ready for pickup by 4:30pm. And boy was it delicious. The price was much lower than the quality and service was outstanding. I had my kids with me and had parked down the street so she told me to park around the front and she brought the cake to my car . I was so happy about the service i forgot to ask the ladies name . I highly recommend this place . Its few and far between that you ever get a buisness willing to go beyond the standard for their customers. And in this day and age it definitely goes a long way. What a wonderful shop - do yourself a favor and pay Kumi a visit. She's only open a few days a week (she does ALL of the baking herself, she feels she's the only one who can deliver the quality she wants). We stopped in to buy some cannoli (which were INCREDIBLE - best cannoli I've ever had) - we had a wonderful chat as we told her we were moving to the area from California, she could not have been more welcoming, and even gave us a free tomato pie she was so proud of her work (rightfully so, turns out the tomato pie was AWESOME). I tried to do a "keep the change" with her since she was so generous giving us the tomato pie, she insisted I take 100% of the change from the charge for the cannoli. We're hooked.
