Canyon 49 is a very unique restaurant. Situated right off of the I-17 and Camelback road, the restaurant sits nestled inside a portion of the Grand Canyon University campus. The entrance, one off Camelback and the other 27th Ave., are guarded by GCU personnel, giving a comfortable security in an otherwise sketchy neighborhood. Canyon 49, a stand-alone building near the center of the complex by the GCU hotel, has a valet style entrance followed by an open concept lounge/waiting area. This area is shared by the hotels check-in desk. For those waiting, feel free to grab some fresh popcorn, lounge around viewing your favorite TV show, or for the select few, some light reading in this contemporary layout. After being seated, the wait staff quickly jumps in to offer refreshments. As a majority of the staff daylight as students, it is refreshing to see such effort put towards excellent customer service. The wait staffs upbeat customer service offsets the plain-tee style uniform. As far as the food service, credit is due to the attempt of creativity. However, the creative style choices to make the unique dishes does not always match the taste palate, giving an odd supplement in an otherwise hometown favorite dish. If new taste challenges interest you, then this may be an ideal restaurant to keep in mind. Pricing is as expected for such a unique restaurant, mid-range pricing for mid-range portions. Discounts are available for students and...
Read moreThe first time we (a party of 3) ate here for lunch, we experienced the following: Over cooked Curly Fries, over cooked battered onions in the hamburger, the Hamburger was cooked to perfection but hardly no BBQ Sauce on it. Mixed greens salad looked awesome but could not eat it due to a fishy taste & fishy smell. Cream Cheese dessert tasted synthetic/artificial, the Raspberry Sauce on the cream cheese was awesome and not overly sweet. Our 2nd time eating here (party of 2) for lunch: Chicken Wings were over cooked & not enough BBQ sauce on wings & hardly no sauce on the Lemon Pepper wings. Cobb Salad was good, hamburger again was cooked to perfection but not enough BBQ Sauce. The battered onions in the hamburger again were overcooked. Ordered Regular fries this time, they were good and not over cooked. The Creme Brûlée was awesome cooked to perfection not too sweet as well as the Antelope cookie cooked to perfection and not overly sweet. The cost of the extra BBQ and Ketchup sauce was a little pricey. Staff we encountered were friendly. The restaurant has a "not so fresh" smell, maybe a good Degreasing of tables, chairs and floors could be a good start??? Also noticed both times that there was only 1 cook for lunch time - could be the reason for over cooking...
Read moreWent here to meet my twins, who attend GCU, for lunch. We had been there previously on orientation day and had a good experience. I arrived around 12 PM and was seated quickly. Right after being seated, the waitress assigned to our table was there filling our water cups and asked if I wanted a beverage while I was waiting. Nice, as I literally just sat down and was already being attended to. Told her I was waiting for my kids, and I would wait until they got here. Kids arrived, we looked over the menu and placed our orders. Classic Burger with tots; Mixed Green Salad with side of Tots; and Southwest Salad with side of French fries. Food did arrive promptly, considering it was lunchtime and the restaurant was busy. Everything was absolutely fantastic! Although we were pretty stuffed we had to order the skillet brownie to share. What you get with Canyon 49 Grill, great atmosphere, food was superior, tasty, and reasonably priced, great portions and an overall fantastic experience! This will be one place we will come back...
