This was my first time eating at Chicago Gyros. My coworker suggested it, I am not a huge fan of gyros because I am a vegetarian and some places overload them with wet, mushy vegetables. This place was definitely the exception. The lady at the front register took our order promptly, she was friendly, and she put our order in right away. The guys in the back prepared our food perfectly and quickly, paying attention to our exclusions and sauce on the side. A gentleman brought our take-out bags right to us and asked if we needed any ketchup or extra sauce. They had plenty of napkins and utensils already in the bags. The food itself was delicious, even taking it to go! I had the hummus vegetable pita combo. The vegetables were cooked perfectly, the fries are lightly battered or seasoned and stayed hot & crisp during our travel back to the office. My coworker had a traditional gyro combo and it was full of meat and he ate every bite. Excellent food, great customer service, clean restaurant - I would definitely recommend and will be returning in...
Read moreI visited a local Greek restaurant and found the experience disappointing overall. The food had some flavour, but it was overwhelmingly salty to the point of being unpleasant. I ordered a gyro, fries, and a drink, which came out to nearly $15—a steep price considering what was served.
The gyro was extremely basic, consisting only of meat, onion, and a bit of sauce. No tomato, no lettuce, no cheese or pickled veg and when I asked for additional condiments, I was told none were available unless I wanted to pay extra for sauce. That was frustrating and felt stingy.
The fries were hot and well-seasoned, easily the best part of the meal. The kofta was decent, but the accompanying rice was bland, plain, and lacked any visual or flavour appeal. The charred tomatoes and the sauce served with them were good, but not enough to redeem the rest of the plate.
Service was adequate but impersonal—nothing rude, but not exactly friendly either. Overall, it just didn’t feel like a good value for the price. Not somewhere I’d...
Read moreFood is always excellent and I have about 15 years of experiences to go off of here. Atmosphere could use some work, but the main reason anyone comes is for the food. My go to is chicken gyro. Its never dry and theyre one of the very few places that actually make chicken GYRO meat. Not grilled chicken, not diced chicken breast but actual gyro meat thats shaved off of a spit like traditional gyro meat. I cannot have the traditional meat or I would, so being able to have a close second with chicken is amazing. They also have some of the BEST tatziki sauce compared to other places. Theirs is made with actual greek yogurt and has a very light and refreshing taste. I also love their giant greek salads. If you love gyros, you'll...
