Honey Bear’s BBQ has been a personal favorite of mine for over a decade, dating all the way back to when they were located in downtown Phoenix. It’s one of those places that leaves a lasting impression from the first bite, and after all these years, the quality has stayed just as high. When it comes to BBQ, they really know what they’re doing. The flavor is always rich, smoky, and well balanced, and the meat no matter what you order just falls apart effortlessly.
One of the standout things for me has always been how tender their BBQ meats are. Whether it’s brisket, pulled pork, or ribs, the texture is just right every time. There’s never any chewing struggle everything just melts in your mouth. That kind of consistency is rare these days, especially in spots that have been around this long. Their BBQ spicy sauce also adds the perfect touch without overpowering the natural flavors of the meat.
And the sides? Just as impressive. From their beans to the mac and cheese, everything complements the main dish perfectly. You can tell they put just as much care into the sides as they do the meats, which isn’t always the case at other BBQ joints. Every plate feels like a full, complete meal comfort food done right. You walk out full and satisfied without needing anything extra.
I also have to give major credit to their customer service. Every time I’ve visited, I’ve been greeted with a warm welcome and friendly service. Most recently, we decided to go on Father’s Day, fully expecting a long wait and a packed dining area. To our surprise, we were given the food in just 20 minutes, and the dining area was surprisingly relaxed. It made for an even better experience not rushed, not crowded, just good food in a comfortable setting.
Honey Bear’s BBQ continues to be a top-tier spot in Phoenix in my eyes. They’ve been doing it right for over 10 years, and I don’t see myself stopping any time soon. Between the quality of the food, the friendly staff, and the consistently great experiences, it’s a place that earns every return visit. Whether you’re a BBQ lover or just looking for a satisfying meal, you really can’t go wrong with...
Read moreThis place is horrible. I have been there a total of 3 time. In 2017 it was decent. I went back with my mom in 2020/2021 we complain about the food amongst ourselves but we ate the food, especially considering what we paid for it. I went back today 2/14/22 (only bc all the other black owned bbq restaurants are closed on Monday) to eat with my sons for Valentine’s Day. I order 3 kids meal ..2 ribs one side and a small drink and a spicy hot link.
To began, the presentation of the food, well there is none. None of the food is actually grilled. The greens were horrible the flavor is unexplainable, it’s like the seasons their using aren’t a good mixture. My boys eat greens and my boys EAT baby …they both took about two bites and were done with them. my youngest took two bits out of ONE rib and was done. My oldest took 2 bites out of each rib and was done.
The spicy hot-link was two skinny hot-link slices in half and heated in the microwave place on a COLD REGULAR HAMBURGER bun! HORRIBLE.
Ellen was playing on the TV and it felt as if I was at home. I wanted to feel like I left the house and from the atmosphere to the food it was absolutely basic. No Passion. The food has worsened over the years. On top of all that there was a lady who look as if she walk by and found some where to hang out coughing and everything. I spent all of 20-25 mins in there
I threw left over ways I was pretty upset about spending my money. I 100% regretted it and I will never return or recommend this restaurant.
Lo Lo’s Chicken and Waffles it is until I can find something to top that, but I hate to even risk it at this point. $40...
Read moreEven though I live next to the place, I rarely eat here. The prices are a bit too high for the portions they serve. And they don't have fries. However, I do remember they made excellent BBQ ribs. The sauce was good and the meat would drip off the bones. This was several years ago. Today, I went in and decided to try their BBQ chicken. I expected it to be as good as the ribs I remember. Imagine my surprise when I found the meat tough and dry. How hard can it be to cook chicken? It was worse than a rotisserie chicken you can buy at Wal-Mart. Much worse. I wasn't going to write a review based on one bad experience. I figured I must have been the rare customer who got served an improperly-cooked meal. But then I checked the reviews and discovered this seems to be a ongoing issue. I'll close on a positive note: I liked their beans.
UPDATE (9/9/2019): Recently, I decided to give this place a second chance. I have eaten several meals here over the last few weeks and I am happy to report I had no issues with the food. The ribs and beans are as good as they have always been, and the chicken is delicious as well, no longer dry and tough. They have fries now, too. If you buy the pulled pork or brisket sandwiches, I recommend you keep them in their wrappers as you eat them, because they load them with so much meat the buns fall apart and you end up with sticky BBQ sauce all over your hands. Actually, no matter what you order or how you eat it, you'll probably end up licking a lot of BBQ sauce off your fingers, so make sure you grab...
