Ok, so let's be clear-it's not Filibertos or Los Betos no it isn't Nogales, Glendale or Douglas style, it's not even border style food, it's not like Tex Mex-El Paso or Las Cruces-so authentic? Well, we just covered that part. So what would you go here for? This restaurant is just a humble little place you can go if you want to step out by yourself or with your sig other during the pandemic and watch a ball game quietly while you eat. OR if your family knows the family like my family has for 60 years. Jordan's had 2 restaurants. They grew up here in Phoenix so it was all some knew about Mexican food some 60 years ago. Not every one from Phoenix has Latin roots and/or knows real authentic Mexican food. From Bobby who had a Jordan's location in Central Phoenix and lost his business due to the extended construction of the rail transportation to Joe's here at this location (They're brothers). Now Joe has passed the torch of running this location on to his son. Now as far as the food, yes it is mediocre. You can find better and we have. The most personal touch for us is that as explained above, it's familiar, comfortable and family owned. Since we know and have known the entire family, it is special to us. I think this is the same with all the regs that frequent it. It manages to stay open although most times it can appear very empty. They do have a night crowd occasionally that kicks it busy. They haven't had their bar open in well over a year. It was said to be under construction for upgrades but it still remains closed off by a tarp or sheet. We will keep coming here out of loyalty to the restaurant because of the family and the place just feels like home. Though I am from Los Angeles and Chicago, some of my family lived here in Arizona the entire 60 years so I frequented it often when I visited. And Yes though I am from where I am I know Authentic Mexican food, so does my family-they make their own when they want authentic. But I have to say I love this place. The maie servers are fantastic, Tony and Robert (Roberto) were fantastic. Not sure why they have the female server there now, she is nasty. She doesn't seem to like women at all and her disposition shows it. Sorry Jordan's much love to you and the family but the female server does not do your business...
Read moreMy wife and I came here at 11am on a Saturday. The a/c was out but that’s ok. I thought the lights were out too because it was so dark and somewhat gloomy. There was only one waitress and she was bustling around cordially seating the 3 other 2-4 tops bringing chips and salsa. A table of elderly women, who had been previously giving my wife and I some suspicious looks in the parking lot before entering, promptly left once we were seated saying “that it was getting too crowded” (all 4 booths in a square configuration had been sat). I’m Asian and my wife is black and some racist undertones from those customers was felt (I could be possibly wrong), DEFINITELY not the fault of the restaurant. I ordered 2 enchiladas (red beef, green chicken) and rice and beans. The waitress switched my enchiladas around but I’m ok with that. My wife ordered 2 green chicken with sour cream enchiladas with rice and beans and an iced tea and 2 small flour tortillas. This was around 58-60$. The meat in the enchiladas was good, rice was a bit bland, beans tasted a bit burnt. So much cheese and grease on the plate some of the food was indiscernible. Plus it was so dark it was hard to see exactly what you were eating. Spicy salsa was good. Mild salsa TASTED LIKE SPICY MARINARA SAUCE!! After tip we spent close to 70$ for lunch. VERY DISAPPOINTED and I feel ripped off. We finished about 35% of our food at best. Will never come back. Waitress was nice and pleasant and I feel bad for only leaving her 15% tip but getting billed almost 60$ for the meal I was blown away. I’m from south Texas so my idea of Mexican food might be different but I feel this place was just way to expensive for what we got and the atmosphere was dark and gloomy. Hope others have a...
Read moreI came in tonight and ordered takeout from the hostess station from a chick with more attitude than appropriate for the establishment. I rounded out my $46.80 to $50 leaving the hostess with an undeserved tip for her lack of customer service to which she took it upon herself to apply a 20% tip after I left the establishment. I'm pretty sure that's credit card fraud/theft. Of course never did I think someone would have the gall or audacity to try and get away with something like this, so she has officially just made sure that more unnecessary paper will be wasted as I will definitely be requesting a copy of my receipt from now on.
To the hostess working around 8:30pm with the long blonde hair on 03/06/19: Good luck in life.
Update Melissa (long blinds hair) told me there is no owner or manager on duty. They don't have a manager at all. When I asked who she defers to when she has a question or problem, she interrupted our conversation to speak with a customer in the restaurant without even asking me to hold, or any segue at all. Where'd they get this chick?
Update* the manager(😮) just called me back. Apparently on prepaid Visa cards the tip is automatically configured into the total amounts and then it drops off the next day. He said he's seen it before, so we're going to figure it out tomorrow and see what happens. And then as for the chick he sounded very convincing that he heard my problem and realized that it was the issue that needed addressing. At this point I am pleased with my service from...
