First off I thought this place was "Jicaras" that I have been going to for a year now. I order 3 carne Asada burritos and when I got home to eat myself and two other family members found ourselves picking grisel and fat out of every bite! However irritating right! I thought to my self what is wrong with this meat Jicaras always has tender seasoned meat and no fat in the it. After about 4 bites enough was enough. I grabbed my reciept and that's when I realtthis place was not Jicaras!!! When I called they young lady who took my order explained to me Jicaras closed and they are entirely a different restaurant just same location. Well that explains it all! She stated to bring in the receipt and I would get a full refund. I went in 2 days later (i had no transportation for 2 days) with the receipt. The owner was present and extremely rude. When I explained the situation to him he played dumb and said I don't know what grisel is and I don't have fat in my meat. He went on asked who helped me when I explained the young ladies appearance he said no one worked there that looked like that and so on. I told the owner the lady said I could get a full refund however I do understand I was not able to come back that day so I am ok with at least 50% back. The owner told me again that basically I was lying and he will not be refunding anything. So I write this review to say THE FOOD WAS GARBAGE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE IS GARBAGE!!! I forgot to add rice was warm but mushy they definitely don't know how to cook rice and beans were cold and watery! I know something was different when I seen the burritos were $7 instead of the $5 I was use to paying but when you get good quality food you don't mind paying the price but clearly this was not the case!!! Pepe's Taco Villa is still the best authentic Mexican food family owned and operated in...
Read moreI was really hoping this place would be great, but it ended up being one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time.
We were seated quickly and greeted right away, but the service was lacking. Our waitress was short with us, didn’t check in often, and we didn’t get our drinks until after we ordered our food. Prices were high—a bottled Coke was $4.50—but we assumed that meant the food would be excellent.
For a place called Las 15 Salsas, we weren’t given chips and salsa, and when our food arrived, we were only given two salsa options, which was pretty underwhelming.
The Plato de Tasajo was terrible. A quarter of the plate was just lettuce and tomato, the beans were flavorless, the rice was plain white rice, and the tasajo was so thin that it was as tough as beef jerky. To make things worse, there was a small bug on the rice. When we pointed it out, the waitress just said it was because the food had been sitting at our table for so long and that bugs were flying around.
When we expressed our concerns about the tasajo, the waitress was dismissive, saying that since we had touched the food, nothing could be done and that "this is just how it is because it's Oaxacan food." We told her we didn’t feel like we should be paying nearly $18.50 for that dish, but she repeated that there was nothing they could do.
Then, while we were still eating, the waitress suddenly snatched the plate from in front of the person I was with and told us we needed to pay and leave immediately because "the manager doesn’t want you here anymore." They did remove the tasajo from the bill, but we weren’t even offered a box for the food we did pay for before the waitress walked away.
Just an overall awful experience. I wouldn’t recommend this...
Read moreI’m from the south of Mexico, I am familiarized with authentic Oaxaca cuisine, and when I first saw there was a place where they sell Tlayudas I knew I have try it. I was having low expectations about this place, but I was completely wrong, just when I entered to the restaurant I smelled the Scent of OAXACA, and its marvelous cuisine. I ordered a Tlayuda with mixed meats, and a Guava drink. The tlayuda is crunchy, delicious, and extremely good ingredients. The size of it was ENORMOUS, it is completely worth it for 15 dollars, nowadays in Oaxaca it is the same PRICE, and it is not that big and good. The owners of the restaurant are from Oaxaca Central Valley, where they appreciate good food, and being honest with their people, this is best place I have been in Phoenix. IT IS MUST GO IN ARIZONA....
