I live in a nearby community to the Raven course and have had great feeling towards the course until the last couple of months. I was a prime Arcis member and decided to cancel my membership today due to the manager and his employee treating me disrespectfully and unfairly. Since I started attending the Raven, the boys in the front who assist players never gave me the same services that I saw them give others right in front of me. I am a young African male and felt like the boys treated me as if I was inferior to them and would tell me to do certain services for myself (that my membership included for free) while they would eagerly provide the services for other members. I finally felt that I couldn’t take it anymore. Today, after experiencing similar discrimination of services as listed above, the manager came yelling at me at the first hole telling me to tee up quickly because there were people behind me. I told him I could not because there was another group of people on the course and I did not want to hit them. I was surprised that the manager was treating me this way, as I pay for the ability to play the course and be respected in my time to do so. Another time, I offered one of the front guys a $10 tip to clean my clubs and he immediately declined and then went on to clean another Caucasian player’s golf clubs. Ironically enough, this service should be included in my membership. Overall, I’ve felt a sense of racial bias and being looked down upon. It is really sad that such a beautiful golf course is run by a disrespectful and biased general manager. I am bummed because I will not be attending the course anymore because it is a gorgeous course and is 5 minutes from my home. I have been coming to the course almost 2-3 times a week for the last couple of months and the service has continually become worse. I believe every person should be treated equally and with respect and if I am paying $60 a month for the Arcis membership in addition to $50+ for every tee time, I expect to at least be treated with...
Read moreDay 4 of a 5 day golf trip. Our first 3 days were at resort style courses. While Raven is not a resort, it does have a “local golf club” feel. The course is very lush compared to the desert style of most other area courses. The pine trees provided excellent shade when needed. Greens were in great shape and were a good speed. The tee boxes were being re-done on the 1st hole and the par 3’s. This shortened the course up quite a bit but I will never penalize a course for doing upgrades. The bag drop attendants were great to talk to and very hospitable. The starter was very professional and payed out all the ground rules of the day. The golf shop was decent and if you like Travis Mathew apparel, this is your place.
Only a few negatives for me. The starter explained the pace of play of 4 hours and 20 minutes. We waited on the 3 some in front of us all day en route to a 4 hour and 45 minute round. The only time we saw the ranger was on 10 fairway. While he did provide a much needed chilled face towel, that was his only appearance of the day.
While I do understand that the maintenance staff has work to do, it was frustrating to wait on the same guy mowing the collars on two consecutive holes at 11am. Hard to hit while he circles the green but we decided to wait on him instead of firing at him.
The beverage cart made an appearance on the 3rd hole. We also saw her parked at the turn. She apparently was done for the day. While we did have a nice young lady show up on the 17th tee, it was too little, too late. Thank goodness there are plenty of water coolers on the course in 100 degree heat.
All in all, a good course but there are definitely more courses that are more enjoyable to play in the...
Read morePlayed 03/17/23 at 8am. Staff was exceptional and the range, short game and putting areas were in great shape. Course itself was in immaculate condition and the greens were in better shape than probably any course available to the public! So why 4 stars and not 5? The pace of play was atrocious. At the start of the round the starter emphasized a four hour and 30 minute pace of play, which is relatively standard and reasonable. We made the turn in 2 hours and 35 minutes, so about 20 minutes behind pace. Didn't see the Marshall once on the front 9 and were told at the turn the first group out for the day was 20 minutes behind pace by the 7th hole!!!! We were assured the back 9 would play faster but it definitely did not. We finally saw the Marshall on the SEVENTEENTH HOLE who just thanked us for coming out. 18 holes took us 5 hours and 5 minutes and waited on every single shot from the 2nd hole until we finished, which is unacceptable in my opinion. This course is definitely top tier for the area but the pace of play really needs to be addressed. I get this time of year is very busy but if the first group out was really that slow then why weren't groups allowed to play through or have that first group pick up the pace? The entire reason I booked a tee time this early was to avoid slow play! Again the course,, hospitality and facilities were all beyond exceptional! Hopefully this issue is addressed and the pace of play speeds up again once summer...
