Shaghf Cafe — Restaurant in Phoenix

I walked into an overwhelmingly loud cafe with no one else there on a Sunday morning. I struggled to figure out where i wanted to sit to avoid a loud speaker and the overwhelming plug in air fresheners. The furniture is uncomfortable. They mostly have lower tables with triangle bottom chairs so your bum barely fits on them. I moved to a high top and decided to unplug the obnoxious air freshener so I could actually breathe. I finally settled in and ordered an almond milk pistachio latte, a drink i’ve order from the tempe shagf plenty of times. They delivered my drink and it tasted like i was drinking pure syrup. I asked them to remake it and they did which is also when I asked them to turn down the music…which they did for about 15 minutes and turned it up louder than it was before. I’m not sure why they’d want to be so close to a university but create an atmosphere you can’t actually study in between the furniture, music and fragrances. The music was oldie classic rock, it may have been nice if it was soothing arab music like at the tempe location, not oldie american music blasting in your ears. This new café recently opened in the shopping center, and I was eager to give it a try. I’m not very familiar with Arabic culture (please feel free to correct me if I’m mistaken), but I was excited to explore something new.

Upon entering, I was immediately impressed by the upscale and aesthetically pleasing ambiance—something I haven’t seen in American cafés. The design and atmosphere felt modern yet inviting, making it an ideal spot for those who appreciate stylish, Instagram-worthy spaces.

I ordered the salted caramel latte and the pistachio latte, and both exceeded my expectations. The flavors were rich and well-balanced, standing out even among popular cafés in Arizona, including both major chains and independent coffee shops.

The place really looked nice and clean. The service was bad. The person at the front counter did not provide good customer service. They were slow, not wanting to be there or doesnt like their job at all and it shows. I ordered the big dubai bar and got two different kinds of bar. One half was a big block plain and the other was skinnier and had some toppings on it. It was not the same bar but broken up into two pieces not at all like the one on display. The dubai chocolate was just a big ol chocolate bar. Could not taste the pistachio at all. All that chocolate over powered the inside filling. Tasted like a hersheys crunch bar.
