Posting this to help prevent others from making the same mistake I did. He obviously creates fake five star post giving himself good reviews to try to outweigh the bad ones simply look at some of the pictures that some of the reviews have in them and then go on his website and look at the pictures of the mushrooms it's literally the same exact picture that he puts on his website.
I paid Michael Crowe (owner of Southwest Mushrooms) thousands of dollars for a spawn subscription, a laminar flow hood, and consulting. What I received:
Contaminated, mislabeled, unusable spawn
A damaged, non-functioning flow hood
Excuses, silence, and no refunds
This wasn't a one-off miscommunication—it was months of being strung along with broken promises, false timelines, and zero accountability. Even after documenting everything (photos, receipts, timestamps, videos), he refused to make things right.
After digging deeper and talking to others, I found I’m not the only one. Multiple people have reported being scammed, underdelivered, or completely ghosted after paying him. Some got half-orders, some never got anything, others were “paid back” with low-value products they didn’t want or couldn’t use.
His business is disorganized, unreliable, and currently in serious financial trouble (his own words via text). He's operating under different business names and trying to appear legit, but the track record speaks for itself.
If you’re in the mushroom growing community—especially if you’re just starting out—avoid Southwest Mushrooms and Michael Crowe. Don’t lose your hard-earned money like I did.

Read moreI was super excited to order stuff from this producer because I saw them on youtube so I trusted them. However, problems arose after I ordered a grow kit. At first, I waited 11 days and even reached out to them to see if my order was received and the status of my order. After numerous attempts to contact them (even called their place of business numerous times) they lead me to believe they weren't even in business anymore which scared me until they finally reached back out to me on a third-party app after 1 week from my initial response. Still wanting a grow kit I gave them a chance still and waited another week for them to send me a grow kit. It has now been 27 days and I had to cancel my order with them for not providing adequate customer support and as well lying to me when they assured me my order would be shipped this week (which it wasnt). When I told them of my disappointment they did nothing to better the situation and just asked me to wait longer...I also noticed they raised their prices from 35$ a grow kit to 48$ from the time of my purchase. I will never do business with this producer ever again and I recommend who ever finds this try North Spore for their mushroom needs, they have instant customer support and are very transparent with how long shipping...

I thought it would be a good experience from seeing their YouTube videos, however the communication and customer service are virtually non-existent. After a month of not getting an order confirmation I reached out for the status. The response was essentially "they will be ready to ship soon" and I was given tracking numbers. Another month later Michael tells me that they do not actually have what I ordered (failed to disclose that for 2 months!), and he would send out what they have THAT DAY and 'refund' me.
