Baltimore Food Guide: Must-Try Eats (Part 1)

Waste of money. Terrible food. Tom yum soup had no taste at all.. Worst one I've had. Tasted like just watery liquid stuff with a couple mushrooms floating on top... Green curry was unseasoned, cold (imagine that), no flavor, and had no eggplants, even though the menu indicated it did. When I asked about eggplants, we were told that they have stopped putting eggplants for ages. It tasted watery and terrible also. Pad thai was okay, but entire plate had like 4 tiny shrimps. Pork appetizer skewers were rough and tasted almost stale. The place was not crowded. We waited over 45 minutes for subpar food, with extremely small portions.

Had a great Xmas eve dinner with my wife at Crystal Thai Restaurant in Owings Mills. We both had soup. I had Thai wonton soup and my wife had a transparent noodle soup. Both were excellent. She had a dumpling appetizer as her main course. I had crispy eggplant in a chicken and herb sauce. Both were delicious. For dessert, she had mango and sticky rice. I had a mango ice cream cake. Outstanding. There's plenty of free parking in the lot out front. The restaurant is on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible. If your kids like authentic Thai food, bring them along. I recommend the Crystal Thai Restaurant in Owings Mills.

I have never written a review like this before.

We ate here last night.... 6:00 pm on a Friday night and we were the only people in the restaurant. We ordered Calamari Appetizer. It took 30 minutes,,, but no big deal. The batter was great but neither of us could chew the calamari so we had a plate of what resembled chewed up rubber bands. I had spring rolls that were SO GREASY through and through that I could not eat them. I tried. I tried to soak up the oil but it was all the way through to the cabbage. The cabbage was dripping with oil. Hubby said the fryer probably was not hot enough. I didn't complain. I don't like to send food back. I had WonTon Soup that looked and tasted like what is left over in the kitchen sink after you do the dishes. I tried hard to eat it because I was so hungry! My palette was NOT cooperating. My husband ordered a noodle chicken dish and discussed the 'HEAT' factor with the waiter. He told us that on a scale of 1-5 it was a 1 (one). After a few bites my husband drank his entire drink and mine. His face looked like he was going to have a heart attack. I took a tiny noodle and put it on my tongue. Big mistake. We had no more to drink. Thankfully I had a diet pepsi in my bag. The waiter never returned so I grabbed that soda and filled his empty glass up. At the point I was hungry, pissed off because we were the ONLY ones in the place and couldn't even get water! My tongue was on fire and I was only imagining what my husband was going through. I just kept telling him I was SO SORRY ( I picked the restaurant) I looked down at my food. Everything was picked through. I ate the batter off my calamari and left a plate of bald squid! My soup was mushy noodles with cabbage floating in a cloud of yellow liquid. All I could taste was salt. And the spring rolls were starting to coagulate in their own oil. My husbands plate was 1/4 gone. I could see he was in pain. A guy who was not our waiter came over and I asked for the check. $45 and we were still hungry and needed water badly. We stopped at 7-11 on the way home and my husband bought ICE CREAM b/c he said he needed something COLD and MILKEY. This morning we have a funeral to attend. (My husbands aunt was struck and killed by a drunk driver). My husband has been up all night long with heart burn and Montezumas revenge. He has not slept at all. We won't be going to the funeral because its in PA and he won't be able to go without a bathroom every 30 minutes. I am off to WALLGREENS to buy Antacid and Imodium.

I just wanted to document our experience. Upon leaving there were two people who were bringing back their 'TAKE OUT' because it was not what they ordered. Of course under my breath I said "That is the Universe trying to spare you a very bad experience......

Crystal Thai use to be my families go-to restaurant for authentic Thai food. We loved it about a year or more ago. The customer service was great we knew the employees. The food was always authentic and fresh. Recently within the last year it seems they have new management and an all new staff. The quality of the food has really gone down hill. Super disappointing considering the pricing and how delicious it use to be! Every time you call in your order over the phone they say they do not have certain menu items represented on the online menu. My question is are they ever going to update the online menu if that’s the case?! The last time I ordered about 4 months ago the food quality was extremely poor! My PadThai was cold and had about 5 shrimp, no veggies, no peanuts, or limes. Super disappointed we were definitely loyal costumers! It’s basically impossible to find Thai food restaurants in Owings...
