I love little Mom & Pop restaurants, where everyone usually knows everyone, as these places often have regulars that frequent the establishment, I happen to be one at Dixie. The restaurant is clean, staff are friendly but the quality of food could be better. It’s not bad but again, improving the quality would bring this place to a whole other level. For example, better quality ingredients, creating a few authentic staples for the menu selection, rather than this canned crap that taste disgusting. I understand cost but your customers won’t mind paying for quality. Also, update the menu occasionally and run specials. I’ve been a customer for quite some time, based on my experience, this place is usually quite busy but I’d contribute that to the very limited number of restaurant such as this one. A lot of the patrons are former customers of Carol’s Place, including myself, we were all relocated to this restaurant as an alternative. Breakfast items are better than lunch/dinner. Lastly, presentation matters, the food should look appetizing not slopped onto the plate.
Update: Sorry guys, changing my rating to one star! Today, my food arrived with a black curly hair cooked into my egg. I was completely disgusted, wear a hairnet! I’ve ordered from your restaurant at least 2-3 times per week, for years. The butter you are using to either cook the sausage gravy in or to cook or butter the biscuits that accompany the sausage gravy, you shouldn’t leave that sitting out, it spoils! It taste nasty. This is not every time, so I’m guessing it’s only after the butter has sat out and spoiled. Food safety is extremely important, and why sacrifice safety and taste when it can be completely avoided? This isn’t meant as an attack, just constructive criticism with things you can improve on with...
Read moreLet me start out by saying the waitress was great. I am a two time kidney transplant recipient and there is a few rules I have to abide by when eating out. One very important rule is all red meat has to be well done with absolutely no pink in it due to bacteria, no buffets due to bacteria and no eggs whites can be uncooked due to bacteria. I was there at lunch with friends and ordered the chuck steak well done and I explained to the waitress why it had to be well done with no pink she said she would let the cook know and she did. The food arrived at the table I cut into it and it was more of a medium, it was all pink in the middle and all at the table agreed and the waitress apologized and I asked her if I can change my order because it would take too long to re-cook the chuck steak she said no problem. She took it back there and the owner started yelling at her and everyone in the restaurant could hear what he was saying and that she and I do not know what well done is. I know well done is not pink and it was pink. It was very embarrassing for me for her all the waitresses that heard it Everybody eating that heard it and to the owner himself. The worst part is is he knew we heard it because we were sitting right next to the kitchen doors as he walked out gave me a glare and did not even apologize. I also asked to speak with him and he refused to come over. If this owner cannot understand the importance of this situation and taking care of the issue he should not be in the business. What is sad is my family and many people I know frequent this Restaurant and it will now be the last. The owner’s decision of well...
Read moreFirst impressions are most important to me, I was pleasantly surprised as I entered, a smiling polite lady met me at the door. I was seated promptly, asked what I wanted to drink received my water and coffee in no time flat. A few seconds later, my waitress, Victoria (smiling from ear to ear) appears from seemingly nowhere, asking if I needed a little more time or if I knew what I wanted. The menu had a nice and largely country themed selection, I ordered the country fried steak and eggs, with a biscuit and potatoes on the side, currently waiting while I take in atmosphere and just look around at the southern themed decor. As I sit just looking around like a tourist, I notice the outdoor seating, that is shaded along the front of the building, nice and large tables out there. The table spacing wasn't crowded and the noise level was pleasant. So, more food on the plate then one man should ingest in one sitting, (on a diet? I'm not sure a guy could stick to it here) I just had to finish everything on my plate, lol. Food was amazing, just like mamma use to do, with the notable exception of the red skin potatoes were a little under cooked for my liking and the biscuit, while very large, was a little doughy. Overall, the food was country great, and I'll have to not eat for 2 days to even my diet out. Price was surprisingly inexpensive, $16.50 for all that? Awesome price! Victoria was fantastic very attentive and friendly throughout. Next time within 100 miles of here, I'm definitely coming back for that country fried steak. You gotta stop in at Dixie Belle Cafe if...
