I recently visited Happy Snapper Seafood Restaurant with my kids after being enticed by the positive Google reviews and appealing photos. However, my overall experience fell short of expectations. I had high hopes for a fresh and enjoyable seafood meal, but unfortunately, there were a significant drawbacks.
We decided to order a variety of dishes to share, including Calamari, Fish & Chips, and Blackened Salmon with Broccoli and corn on the cob. While the Fish & Chips and Calamari were satisfactory, the Blackened Salmon was a letdown. The salmon was overcooked, rendering some of the end portions too tough to eat or even cut. This was a huge disappointment, as we were looking forward to savoring tender and succulent salmon.
Furthermore, the restaurant's ambiance could use improvement. It felt a bit dull and lacked the lively atmosphere that one would expect from a seafood establishment. To enhance the seafood vibe, it would be great if they brightened up the space and played Island or Caribbean music, adding a touch of vibrancy to the dining experience.
On a positive note, the trivia loop playing on the TV screens provided some entertainment, and the Coleslaw served was quite good. However, considering the overall experience, the lackluster ambiance, coupled with the disappointment of the overcooked salmon, made me question the value for money, specially when I brought it up to the server. Who replied this happened recently to someone else and that was it. No let us make it up to you on your next visit or and real concern to address it so it doesn’t happen to someone else.
In conclusion, my visit to Happy Snapper Seafood Restaurant did not live up to the positive reviews and enticing photos. While there were a few highlights, such as the Fish & Chips and Calamari, the overcooked salmon and lackluster ambiance overshadowed the positives. I believe there is room for improvement in terms of food quality, ambiance, and...
Read moreWe’ve driven by this little place so many times. This time we decided to give it a try and are we glad we did! Excellent food, service, seating, and clean. All I appreciate in anywhere I dine. My partner had the shrimp and scallops with fried rice meal. The scallops were large and cooked perfectly. The shrimp were jumbo and had a great taste. Not to leave the fried rice out…it was made from scratch with a nice mix of vegetables. We shared a Caesar salad and it was plenty for two. The only thing I found wrong was they were stingy with the croutons (3 on a lg salad). I’m sure if we’d requested more they would have brought us additional. I had ordered the jumbo fried shrimp served with fries but I asked if I could substitute the dill potatoes and that was done. When my meal arrived I saw nice jumbo fried shrimp coated with a very delicious and crunchy coating. They will serve cocktail and tarter sauce with the plate. The serving of the dill potatoes were generous in a side bowl. We asked to try the clam chowder that one of the other patrons had recommended. They served plenty for 2 to share and explained it was made to order but we didn’t have to wait long before they set a small ramekin on the table with saltine crackers. It was delicious and fresh tasting. Our service could not have been better even though they only had 3 tables with dining customers. They paid attention to all the little details and stopped by the table several times to check on us and to clean any dirty plates away so we didn’t have a cluttered 4 top. If you are a lover of seafood this is worth a visit. You shouldn’t be disappointed. They offer take out and...
Read moreHigh quality, modest prices, great service. It's Monday dinner. When we arrive at 7 pm, the place only has one table left. My positive memories from Jan 2021 remained intact of the high quality at easily double the price, a fast kitchen, friendly service, and zero atmosphere. Happy Snapper is a must try for seafood lovers no matter your dining budget. The clam chowder is a light, modern version with a buttery cream broth rather and without thickener. I could easily have had two bowls. Upon commenting about the chowder to the server, he mentioned a native New Englander raved to the chef about it. The Mussels fra Diavolo appetizer was flavorful at a medium heat level accompanied by four slices of grill toasted crusty bread. French fries go with mussels (ask any Belgian about mussels and frites). These were perfectly, lightly crispy, unsalted, and grease free. The snapper filet entree was grilled to a moist doneness and well seasoned but not overly so; accompanied by sautéed squash and red potatoes. My previous meal of a grouper sandwich for lunch equaled anything I have had at Clearwater Beach or St Pete Beach for quality. For those who must have alcohol, maybe check on BYOB if that is possible. A remodel about two years ago from a seafood market look to a small, no-frills restaurant has not changed the quality with a very small uptick in prices due to the usual reasons of inflation in the supply chain. Another change was a second capable chef for consistency every day. Capacity is 34 diners. The space is small but not tight. It's somewhat out of the way, and...
