As a regular customer, I’ve never been impressed with the customer service at this bagel shop, but today was beyond unacceptable. The shop closes at 2 PM, and I arrived at 1:45 PM. When I politely asked the woman behind the counter (who had short hair, a cap, and spectacles) if they were still serving, she responded in a condescending tone, emphasizing that they would be closing in 15 minutes.
Despite the time, I quickly started placing my usual order. She removed her gloves and, with clear irritation, told me to wait, complaining about her long day. This set the tone for the rest of the interaction. I repeated my order, including the type of bagel I wanted, but it was clear she wasn’t listening. She asked me multiple times what kind of bagel I wanted, which was frustrating.
When I inquired about coffee, she rudely informed me they were out. I also requested that my bagel be toasted, but that too was ignored. After asking several times, she finally started preparing my order, but again asked, “What kind of bagel?” If she wasn’t going to listen, why bother asking?
The order was finally completed, but the bagel wasn’t toasted, as I had requested multiple times. To make matters worse, it was the worst-tasting bagel I’ve ever had, as if she went out of her way to make it terrible.
I can’t help but wonder if this treatment was due to my race. It’s hard to believe that the staff’s poor attitude and condescending tone are just because they’ve had a long day, especially when it happens every time I visit. I can understand someone having a bad day once or twice, but I’m not here to be insulted every time I visit.
I will never be returning to this place, and I strongly advise others to...
Read moreDon't bother coming here to order in person unless you have a lot of time. They get a ton of orders, and they service them (both online and in person) in the sequence in which they came. This means if you just want 3 bagels (not a sandwich), you might have to wait 10 minutes or longer. After tipping prior to receiving my bagels, I waited at least 5 minutes while the two women workers prepared orders (apparently a long list of sandwiches). I could see they were really busy, but since I have to get back to work, I asked them politely if they could just hand me the 3 bagels I ordered but without cutting them (so it would be faster for them), but they became frazzled, rolled their eyes, and semi-aggressively asked me to wait my turn.
As I was leaving, I heard one worker say rather loudly that I had an attitude. There were two women making the orders who were frantic (clearly understaffed), but 1 man doing almost nothing at the register (why didn't he just hand me the bagels after I ordered them?).
I don't come here much because my experience is always the same. Sometimes I just want to pop in and buy a bagel but it's too much of a hassle. They lost my...
Read moreWorst Bruegger's around . I go here frequently to get a simple bagel and cream cheese . The place is never staffed properly . The workers can hardly multitask and typically have zero sense of urgency. There are times I go in and there is only one other person ordering and it takes twenty minutes to get a bagel . Not worth your time . I've never seen anyone working there who leads or manages wisely ,and I go a good bit because I work close by . I will say too that sometimes it's the people ordering. Everyone in shadyside seems to make millions and have so much time on there hand . 3/4 of the customer base don't work and never have to be anywhere quickly. Seems a little bias and even i can admit it is , but all in all a horrible experience for something that should be so simple . Long story short , not enough people staffed . Its the day after x mas and there is one person at the register , one person taking orders and only one person making bagels . It's shady side. You're on walnut street . It gets busy here . Figure it out !!! I'll go to Einstein's...
