This hotel is conveniently located near UPMC's Shadyside and offers an easy walkable distance to the hospital. Upon arrival we requested an early check in and confirmed with the night shift gentleman that it was noted and wouldn't be a problem. When we arrived the check in desk stated they didn't have any rooms available but she actively searched for one. She assigned us a room on the 4th floor near the end corner. When we got to the room it was in terrible condition and appears to be a room that isn't typically assigned to guests. It had a water leak in the bedroom that made the carpet soaking wet, a broken kitchen counter and filthy dirty throughout. We went back down to the front desk and requested a different room. We waited in the lobby for 2 hours before a room became available. Upon checking into the 2nd room it was in better condition than the first room but had about 20 dry wall patches throughout that were painted a different color than the wall. The couch pillows were ragged and stained. Shower drain was clogged. The front desk didn't seem to care about these concerns and were more focused on the graduation party in the lobby. We ultimately only stayed here for one night of our week long trip and relocated to a hotel 10 minutes from the hospital, Springfield Suites Bakery Square were we it was a completely different experience. I have never seen a Hyatt hotel in this horrible of condition and never questioned that it would be in bad shape upon booking because Hyatt hotels are usually in great condition. For the building being newer and in a great location you would expect it to be nice quality, especially being charged $245 a night. Thought this should be noted for future travelers that are staying in the area for...
Read moreI would have given this hotel a 5/5 as the rooms, cleanliness, modern appeal and location are all fantastic. Where I felt this hotel came up short was on the service side.
I had this hotel booked for a room block for my wedding. We had several guests traveling in from out of state (almost half of our 100 person wedding) and we wanted to do a "Welcome cocktail" event on the Friday before the wedding. We made the hotel aware of this at the initial time of booking and they OK'd it.
About a month before the wedding, our event coordinator changed (I'm assuming she left) and a new event coordinator was introduced to us- her name was Talia. From this point on, communication was terrible with the hotel. I would email Talia and it would take 3-4 days before she would get back to me and when she did respond, she only partially answered my questions.
The week of my wedding, Talia reached out to me on Monday asking if I needed anything before our guests started arriving later that week. I sent her not only one, but two emails following up on the cocktail welcome event and some other questions. She never got back to me.
I'm sure you can guess it, but we had over 30 people here on Friday for the cocktail event and there was only one bartender. People on average were waiting almost 15 minutes to get a drink. The bartender noted that they were not informed about the cocktail event otherwise they would have brought in another bartender. Extremely frustrating.
I would recommend this hotel for a regular stay or vacation as the rooms are very nice, clean, and it's in a great location... but if you have to do anything with their event coordination staff, I would not...
Read moreWe were in town to bury my father. We needed 2 beds for 3 adults and a child, but ended up with 1 king size bed and a pull out. My brother and his family needed even more room for more people.
Checking in was easy, but they charge you to park. Ok not a big deal. Then they charge you an additional 200.00 hold for incidentals. But in my case they charged an additional 594.00 for 2 nights. Seems the company that I made the reservation with didn't transfer the money they collected even though they booked the room. So I was double charged. Eventually the hotel worked this out, and the front desk personnel refunded my parking fee for the trouble I encountered.
All of the staff is great. But the cost to stay in this hotel for what you get is not worth it. The room looks great, but no one in my family - from the 13 year old to me, got good sleep on the fold out or the king bed for 2 nights. I could not wait for us to get out of there.
I checked with my brother, he had the same experience. The beds are the worst. I will never, I don't care if it's the coming of the apocalypse - stay in this hotel again. I would rather stay outside the city, and incur the extra driving distance than the back & leg pain, from those mattresses.
There were other issues, maybe I shouldn't raise but - we expected the sheets to be changed when we got back to our rooms. This did not happen, because of COVID. We had to call for new towels or face cloths.
If you want to go swimming, it must be scheduled in 1 hour increments. I guess this is also a COVID issue.
Other than not being able to sleep, being double charged for an overpriced hotel all was ok. The...
