Best way to describe this place is just okay but overpriced. I've tried a few items from here and was not impressed with any of them. The pizza or flatbreads are not that flavorful. A few nights ago, I wanted to just try their cookie. If this place made delicious cookies, I would have maybe come back consistently just for dessert, because the main courses are not special in any way. They have a dessert called the milk and cookies, so I decided to give it a try. For takeout, they do not serve it with milk, which is understandable. The cookies itself was similar to the other items I tried: not memorable in most ways. It's not bad, just not particularly good. The size is okay for the price. They pack a fair smith of chocolate in it, and it is definitely a crispy cookie (not a soft one). It almost seemed like a deep dish cookie. All in all, very okay spot. Not bad, not great. The flatbreads or pizzas are jot as good as in many other places I've tried. Maybe their burgers and sandwiches are better. Decent cookie for the price.

This trip was my absolute first time in Pittsburgh, and one of my co-workers suggested I head to this area of town to shop. After asking several strangers where to go eat dinner, and them all responding with “Shady Grove,” I decided to check it out! Well, I can see why everyone loves this place. The bartender Keria was absolutely fantastic. I had the amazing guacamole devil eggs. I know it sounds insane, but they are delicious. I also decided to try the jalapeno popper dip since two locals said it was the best (order half chips and pita). It had to be the best I have ever had. Do not hesitate. Just go, and you will not be disappointed, especially if you are new to the city, alone, and on your first visit here. I got to sit and chat with some amazing people, it was a wonderful atmosphere to be in, and you are treated like you are a local at Shady Grove.

Shady Grove is a vaguely confusing space, but keeps it open to a lot of people. The interior and staff very much gives late night dinner/bar spot, the clientele is a range from college kids to older Walnut Street customers, and the menu prices are pretty expensive for what you get. I was pretty happy with our food, our bruschetta was really good, my burger was actually really awesome, and the Caesar salad was huuuuge. However, service was semi-slow, everything was just a little sticky, the lighting was weirdly bright in some spots, and the music was kind of loud for an afternoon. Probably just not my vibe, would be great for a lot of people and probably is fun to drink at!

If you have celiac disease or any food allergies, don’t come here! I visited for lunch and ordered the gluten free shady sticks and the crispy cauliflower tacos with a gluten free tortilla. The waitress didn't inform me that there was a breading on the cauliflower and I probably should have asked but I thought it was fine because the menu didn’t say it was breaded :( We waited for a really long time for our drinks and then once we ordered and received the drinks, she didn’t come back to check on us or refill drinks until after we received our appetizers and food from a different waitress. Our waters were never refilled and both of my friends had their orders messed up. One got the wrong side and the other got bacon in their burger when they asked for no bacon. The waitress didn’t write any of our order down when she took it and she clearly needed to. My friend also got the wrong mule. This was a Tuesday afternoon so there were hardly any people in the restaurant and she only had one other table. I ended up eating a taco before I realized the cauliflower was breaded and when I asked if it was gluten free she said no. I had her just take it back and didn’t order anything else because I knew I was about to get really sick since I have celiac disease. Although I should’ve been more diligent when ordering, it doesn’t excuse the service we received. The servers should be more thorough and clarify when guests are ordering all gluten...

My wife and I first visited Shady Grove two months ago while moving our daughter into college. That visit was positive enough that we looked forward to coming back with her. Unfortunately, our return during Family Weekend was a major letdown.

We were told there would be a 45-minute wait. We waited about 35 minutes, even though multiple tables sat empty in plain sight. When we were finally seated upstairs, there were even more open tables, which made the long wait feel unnecessary and frustrating.

Our server, AJ, was friendly, but service was disorganized from the start. When our meals arrived, we had no napkins, no silverware, and part of my entrée missing. After pointing this out, AJ returned several minutes later with one set of silverware for two people. A few minutes later, he came back with a single fork, assuring us he’d “keep looking” for a knife. That knife never came. We shared what little we had so we could at least eat our food.

Throughout the meal, there were no water refills, and no offer of another drink. When the bill came, AJ let us know he had taken 10% off my salad (less than $2) as compensation. Given the number of problems, that gesture felt inadequate.

To be fair, the food itself was good. But the service was so poor that it completely overshadowed the meal. With so many other restaurants in the area, we have no reason to return, which is a shame, because we’re loyal customers when we find a place worth...

Sweet potato tater tots yum yum! French fries nice and crispy on the outside warm and tender on the inside and that tastes great!

My cheeseburger tastes great. It was Angus Prime meat. It was the humongous and !Big Mama! size Burger probably three quarters of an inch thick!

My wife's watch tater tots came with Cajun Ranch sauce which was good. Not too spicy. She got something that had au jus with it and she did enjoy that.

I did not care for the sweet tea. I'm pretty sure it was made with a premixed syrup/sweetener or from a fountain. But the waitress fixed me up with their home brewed unsweetened tea which I enjoyed very much.

We also got the avocado deviled eggs with bacon. They were a tad spicy but were delicious! All in all food-wise it was good stuff.

The waitress was very very pleasant and on the ball. She took good care of us.

The atmosphere was just so so. It's what all the kids would call hip, but I didn't care for hip, cuz at my age, hip is something you have to worry about breaking. I'm just not a hip kind of guy!

Side-note - bathrooms are upstairs. You 5ake an elevator to the second floor and then walk all the way across the building. I think they share it with other businesses in this place. If you are an old dude like me, this is not hip! Also one of the toilets was stopped up with toilet paper and therefore unusable.. but maybe that is trendy - - and hip!

All In all, we would most def eat...
