Review is for pick up via Uber Eats. Food travelled surprisingly well in 25F Pittsburgh weather. Portions are extremely generous and the miso soup was still hot after walking ~15 minutes. We ordered the JD1 Japanese Beef Curry Don, the JD2 Japanese Curry Katsu Don, and thought that might not be enough so we also had the Y2 Fish Yumich. Ended up not touching the Yumich at all (which is kind of like a taco, but wrapped in seaweed) since the portions were so generous on the Don dishes. The curry was a great balance of spice and intensity. The beef was tender. The Katsu was just crispy enough. There were tons of vegetables underneath the meat and curry to mix with rice. Overall, phenomenal value for quality Japanese dishes. ($35 total these dishes + ginger dressing)

First to mention that this is no longer owned by the previous owner do I know personally. I didn't know when he sold it but I can tell the quality lacked when we went the last few times. The salad might I say taste the same with the white dressing and it is really good. But the biggest issue is you're paying $9 for a side salad. Are you kidding me. We had the shrimp tempura Maki roll and it was not bad but didn't seem fresh as it was cold. We also had a tuna cucumber roll that first came out as a tuna roll and a cucumber roll. So they took it back and they brought me out a tuna and avocado roll which day ended up giving me for free and that was fine. After talking with my friend I understand why they are changing the menu but the quality is not there

The food was really good for its value. We had the Shadyside (sushi) this was my least favorite, the cream cheese was too overpowering, Shrimp tempura which was really good, the side soup they give was authentic, which I loved, and Chicken teriyaki, which was good but not authentic Japanese taste. Everything was good with good portions but if you are looking for authenticity, this might not be your spot!

I have got an opportunity to get a gift certificate from a well-known Pittsburgh Marketing organization, for a restaurant of my choice. I chose this one, and now I am very sorry that I did not choose a more decent place. Everything was alright, and I was taking pictures of food serving and interior, for the company which granted me the certificate, since they wanted to support a local business by sharing my feedback on their resources. When it was time to check out, I have got a bill, there was no field to put tips at all, and then I gave out my gift certificate. Upon billing, the waitress came back, with a left-over balance on the certificate, and told me that I cannot use that for the tip. I apologized, since I was not aware of this, and had left my purse with cash in my car, with having only the gift certificate with me. Now I realize that I had credit cards in my phone pocket, but that time I was thinking only about cash tips, since, again, the bill did have any field for the tips. So, when I was leaving, I decided to take a couple of pictures of Japanese pieces of art – sculptures of Daruma displayed outside, and right there I was chased by an administrator as if I was a criminal. In a very impolite way, she scorched me over not leaving the tips - I explained the situation, and proposed to bring my purse from my car, but she demanded my gift certificate. So, eventually I gave away the left-over balance, which comprises 16%, so I hope they are happy about this now. Of note, the SushiToo, is the place just using cultural appropriation, and is NOT Japanese. So, as you can imagine, the mood was spoiled, and the overall experience turned to quite negative. And considering such an attitude toward customers with chasing them on the street, now I really doubt the quality of food, especially ingredients with raw meat...

The food is not bad so that is why I wanted to return here, however, the workers here are beyond rude. Online ordering offers curbside pickup, and I selected that option. I called them stating that I was there and online they ask what vehicle you are arriving in. On the phone the woman seemed like she wouldn’t bring it out when I called when I stated that I was there. I waited a couple minutes and called again and she seemed so irritated to bring out the food. While I was on the phone with the woman I tried to mention that I had another order as well but she just set the phone down and left to bring my food with an attitude. The should have other workers that do the curbside pickup if the woman on the phone is going to be so upset. This is a business. I am not your child that is waiting for their mother to bring them their food, I payed money for the food, that is supporting YOUR business. Once the woman came to the car she looked so mad that she had to bring it out, and if that is the case, take away the curbside pick up option, make all customers come in and get the food, do not offer things that you do not want to do. It was an old woman who was very rude. I told her how I had another order that I tried to mention on the phone and she got so MAD. In quotes “ SO WHY DID YOU NOT TELL ME ON THE PHONE” and I tried to tell her that she put the phone down before I got the chance, and she proceeded to get the food and come back even angrier, and we even said thank you and she ignored it and walked away. This is not how you have a business. You respect your customers and we respect you. Do not have the curbside option if you are lazy. Thank you, I will not be...

This place is seriously so wonderful. The people are amazingly warm and friendly, the food is all to die for.

I love the tempura rolls, and honestly, the sushi is great but it's not the most amazing dish. I think it's because I've had great sushi from many places, but the fried rice here is unrivaled. The fried foods in general, such as the spring rolls and scallion pancakes, are wonderful. They must use very fresh oil. The boba tea is splendid.

I am a mushroom lover, so I really love a lot of dishes here that others might find subpar. The spring rolls and miso soup are a good example of this. The soup has a distinct mushroom flavor. For me, this is the best miso soup I've had in my life.

Whatever you enjoy, this place is fantastic.

Update 2025-01-10: my favorite waitress is back! The food is still wonderful and things seem to be changing rapidly. I am missing the boba tea, but I'm hoping it's only temporarily gone. 2025-03-17: Still missing the boba, but omg, their lobster pho is so incredible. I think I've never had a better...
