I have never had the compulsion to write a review before, as my tolerance level is high, but my experience was inexcusable.

I have ordered every birthday cake in my family from this establishment since before the current owners purchased the store from the previous owners. Twice, in this one week, I have called and been told that they couldn't make me a birthday cake for my husband simply by leaving out two ingredients: walnuts and raisins.

The first time was understandable--they were closed and weren't able to make me the cake (even though they made an exception and made it for me on a closed day last year. But the second time I called back, I was simply told "no" and that I "didn't understand their processes well enough." When I asked for the woman to explain the processes to me, she hung up on me! I wasn't being rude, but I was being persistent, because it didn't make sense.

When I called back and sked for the owner, I received a lot of the same, but a lot of shouting at me as well. In addition, he blamed COVID for the inability to make single carrot cake, but with the next breath he said that if it had been another cake, he would have been able. I tried to explain, as I did with the TWO customer service people before him, that I had been buying every birthday cake the exact same way for nearly ten years, and that all I was trying to do was understand WHY leaving out two ingredients caused problems (I had previously even offered to pay DOUBLE for the cake!)--but by then, he had taken the same tack as his precious person--and hung up on me.

If you're reading this, Food Glorious Food, I will never, ever recommend you to the hundreds of people I do each year, and instead, I will discourage them from buying from you, and I certainly will never purchase from you either. If you must blame COVID for your food offerings, that's one thing, but when someone is simply asking questions to understand, COVID is not to blame for your lack of manners and poor customer service. You've just lost a customer for life, and I'll make it my mission to discourage others from purchasing from you in the future as well. I sincerely hope it was...

We absolutely loved this bakery under the old ownership. Unfortunately, it was sold to a new person and we were up to a huge disappointment. The flavors, the style, the texture, the size were all different. Just in a few months, this amazing bakery has turned from the best and the most unique bakery in town into a run of the mill, mediocre place. Why fix something that ain’t broken unless the plan is to go out of business. The location is not the prime one and people were willing to drive there for the amazing taste of food. Now that it’s no longer great, people will slowly stop going...

I can't get enough of Food Glorious Food. The location is great, Highland Park, there is always street parking and they keep their sidewalks nice and clean when it snows! The food is amazing. We get all our special event cakes from here. I have never once been lets down with the quality of food and/or service. The inside is tight but has a few tables near a window and you can get a warm drink and watch the city fly by. Great selection of baked goods; cookies, pies, bread, quiche and...

So I was on a mission to find savory baked goods at a bakery and came here. I was not disappointed! They had a yummy burek (ground beef phillo dough biscuit thing), Strada (breakfast egg casserole), and basil pesto tomato quiche. So it was worth the trip. I don't have too much to say about their sweets, but the display case seemed a little underwhelming in my opinion, and I didn't see any sweets that interested me, except for maybe some pie. Maybe it'll be more interesting to me next time.

Come for the Strata! Stay for the Napoleon! … I used to come here a lot before the pandemic but hadn’t been back in a while. They did some redecorating and the place looks bright and cheerful and welcoming, but still quaint and cozy. One thing that hasn’t changed is the amazing food. Savory and sweets alike are always delicious and fresh. A little pricey but worth it. The Strata and the mini ham sandwiches are a must!
