Love, love, LOVE this pool! The kiddie pool is HUGE compared to other places and this is one of the few Citi Parks pools that stays open all the way until Labor Day. This summer, my 4 year old has been at least 2-3 times a week and learned to swim all on his own in their big, adult pool. Seriously, the pools are just enormous! And the kiddie pool in particular has been really wonderful because it gave my son the confidence he needed in the water to be brave enough to try the big pool.
The kid's pool goes from 1.5' deep on the left to 3' deep on the right side. The big pool starts at a depth of 3.5' but I'm not 100% sure how deep the deep end is; suffice it to say, it's definitely deeper than 6'.
Inflatable toys are not allowed at all, so don't bring your inner tubes or arm floaties because you won't be able to use them. But any toy that ISN'T inflatable and is instead made from foam should be allowed...things like kick boards, the little life jackets, pool noodles, etc. That's really my only complaint; I wish we were allowed to bring more of our swimming toys. Alas, that's just not the case...
There's also one of the mushroom spouts, a volleyball net and sand, and PLENTY of grass to lay out on and get a sun tan ๐
All in all, this is probably my favorite of all the Citi Parks pools. And if you've got children under the age of 16, you can get them a FREE pool tag that WON'T EXPIRE at the Paulson Rec Center...and if you're an EBT recipient, you can even get a 4 pack of tags that offer admission to ANY of the Citi Parks pools for only $30 as long as you bring a printout of your benefits and fill out the paperwork (*usual cost would be $60 otherwise...still not bad if you go as often as my...
ย ย ย Read moreThis is a beautiful area. We were here to see the Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium. I didn't get to explore much of what's outside of the Zoo (If there even is any more). What I did get to see was lush and green and beautiful. I didn't see any places to really visit just a parking lot and a Zoo. There was an icecream and food place across the street. There was a large gas station at the end of the road. Very close to the city with a big parking area for the zoo. There is mostly residential looking area nearby. You can see the river and some pretty views. The park area that is inside of the zoo is beautiful with a lot of flowers to look at. Take the hiking path instead of the escalator or the elevator to see a lot more of the park area. I might be missing a big area of this place that google thought I was at but actually wasn't. This is the best and most honest review that I am able to provide for this area depending on the accuracy of where this park actually is and if it's actually a park at all or just...
ย ย ย Read moreHighland Park has taken sharp decline ever since they closed off the upper part to vehicles. If you are older or handicapped or have any type of physical condition that will not allow you to walk all the way around the park, then you are restricted to the lower part of the park. Whoever's idea it was to make those changes was not thinking in the best interest of people that regularly visit the park. You can no longer drive to the groves that are in the upper part of the park. You can no longer drive your children to Wooden Play Park. The Jazz in the park will become a thing of the past. Even though the corona 19 virus did effect social distancing. I'm sure that wasn't a reason to limit upper park access to vehicles. This was most definitely a bad idea and needs to be...
