My favorite coffee shop in the area, hands down. You’ll find me in there at least twice a week, often more. The owner Max is such a sweetheart and also very creative as a barista and artist. The drink specials are always really good, most recently the Lava Planet spicy hot chocolate has been my fav. There are small bites like locally made breakfast burritos (vegetarian and vegan options) as well as locally made fresh pastries (my favorite is the brownie!). Since it’s inside of Government Center (a record store) there’s always great music playing. Plenty of seating in the coffee shop and also extra seating in the bar connected to it. There are free community resources on the counter of the bar-top seating that I have personally taken advantage of and really appreciate. There have been a few art installations since I started going and it really adds to the character and whimsy of the space. I love coming in after an art opening to see all the new pieces. Also, sometimes for evening-time musical performances in the record store the coffee shop opens back up, its really good for anyone who is sober that might want a tea or seltzer instead of a beer. The vibe is just great — it’s called Kinder Being for a reason. It’s a kinder place where the barista isn’t gonna be judgmental or rude to you for no good reason. Max brightens my day every time I go in. Would recommend to anyone on the North Side looking for a unique and delicious coffee experience. I think it would be a great companion to a visit at Randyland or the Mattress Factory, if you are looking for that same vibrant and artistic energy, this is it. It feels good to give my patronage to a business dedicated...
Read moreI checked out Kinder Being Cafe today. I brought my toddler, who is fully in his shenanigans era. Nobody minded, which is always a relief as a mom. He got to meet a few dogs and check out the space, which was fun for him.
The owner, Max, was super sweet, and the coffee was delicious. Lilac and cardamom syrup made a really unique drink that stands out from other coffee shops!
I noticed free menstrual products, free Plan B, free condoms, and free Narcan on site. This is huge, and I wanted to note it. There's also a record store adjacent to it which is very cool.
As a queer mom, it's a relief to find spaces like this. I will definitely come again for the vibes and the coffee.
Wishing you all the best with...
Read moreI got to know Max years ago as a worker baristaing at a different shop, who would steam every type of milk to perfection and was genuinely so excited to chat with every person who walked in the door - so I knew when he opened Kinder Being that it would be full of local art and love and great coffee! Turns out it also has an amazing crazy paint job, a mini tv, a VHS collection, homemade syrups, plants, and one of those sparky tesla ball toys at the table. All to say: I love this place, highly recommend for...
